  • Can’t say that in my 30 years of watching the Seahawks, that I’ve ever jumped out my seat at a punt.. but holy cow Dickson can boom it. And not just that, he still manages to kick the hell out of the ball while leaving it in the air long enough for coverage to get down there, all while angling a kick and putting so much spin on it return men muff kicks.

Thanks for the memories Jon.. but this tweet sums it up the best for me:

ImTheScientist wrote:This guy is the closest thing to beast mode we will ever see. You got a glimpse of that yesterday. He was instantly my favorite player when they signed him. • He basically removes the field position advantage.

Didn't he kick it from the back of the end zone to the opponent's 40?

Not only that, but the hang time almost assures barely any return.

He is like getting a basket full of puppies.

  • He boomed the hell out of those punts, and didn't even follow through with the foot! It's like taking a chop swing with your 9 iron and hitting the ball 250 yards or something. I told those I was watching the game with that it looks like we just gained a couple mil of cap room after that punt from down by our end zone.

Dude was feeling pressure, didn't fully extend, kicked it close to 70 yards, and put some voodoo-ass spin on the ball that wigged out the return man.

  • I love Jon Ryan, but wow, those kicks looked effortless!

Just the intimidation factor will get punt returners thinking too much! Imagine that, a Punter intimidating a Punt Returner.

AND, that's his first time on an NFL Field. Amazing.

Looks like a punter with a place kicker stroke. He gets great contact at the belly of the ball and can somehow control the spin and direction without fully extending his legs.

  • And to think Minnesota traded ahead of us thinking we were going after the highest rated kicker after selecting Dickson.

Maybe we get a great one after a year of Janakowski. Venaturi is still out there though.

Dickson is gonna be a game changer. Every advantage we can get.

It is not that it was a 65 yard punt in the air. It is the fact that he put a 65 yard punt between the numbers and the sideline. That returner never stood a chance.

  • Knowing very little about this cat, I took a look at that amazing punt he made from our endzone and thought to myself "huh, that kick looks a lot like the way they kick in Aussie rules football". Then I looked him up to find that he's a former Aussie rules footballer.

I see why we spent a 5th rounder on him. That is some leg.

Or they could use a backup QB as a placeholder... or maybe Chris Carson.. that'd keep defenses on their toes.

  • Maybe been posted before, but this reddit thread has a really interesting pre-draft discussion on Dickson.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/8 ... _prospect/

One comment stood out summarizing the damage he did in a game. I mean this kind of production could account for a couple wins per year on its own.

"He's insanely good. This is what he did in the final game of the regular season against Texas Tech:

60 yards, fair caught at the 12
64 yards to the 11 returned for 8 to the 19
54 yards, faight caught at the 12
    53 yards to the 3
    29 yards to the 8
    34 yards to the 1
    67 yard Touchback
49 yards, fair caught at the 20
48 yards, fair caught at the 11

    Average Punt - 50.9 yards

Average starting field position for opponents - 12.3"

The cooler thing for me is it was 59 yards AFTER a 15 yard penalty that was very flimsy at best.

  • Dickson is the only punter in college history to
win MVP of a bowl game.

He's not planning on losing this job.

  • After they picked Dickson, I was actually hoping they'd go after a kicker in the 7th. When Seattle was at their best, the kicking game was a strength. Getting a good young kicker could have meant they were set there for many years.

  • I thought it was funny how people freaked out about a Punter being picked that high. Only to see a Punter and kicker go later in the same round.
