Brandon Marshall is in town

  • 34 years old. Two years removed from 100+ catch, 1500 yard, 14 TD season. But only played in 5 games last year, 18 catches, 0 TD. What say you?

I say if it's a one year deal at a cap friendly number then I'm all for it. Early in his career he was a nightmare for organizations to deal with, but over the past five seasons he's really turned that reputation around and become a model citizen.

Will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

  • We need a playmaker somewhere. If Marshall's willing to be affordable, I have no problem.

(that's a pretty standard answer for every possible acquisition)

We have a bad record with has been WR's and Marshall will not get enough separation for Russell to "take the chance" squeezing into tight windows. Fail waiting to happen IMO.

  • Free-agent wide receiver Brandon Marshall is visiting the Seahawks, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan and Adam Schefter. The 34-year-old Marshall was released by the Giants recently with a failed physical designation after an ankle injury limited him to only five games during his lone season with the team. Russell Wilson lost two of his top targets when Jimmy Graham and Paul Richardson left in free agency, and the Seahawks showed interest in a few big-bodied receivers this offseason: Terrelle Pryor (6-4), Jordy Nelson (6-3) and Jaron Brown (6-2), whom they signed to a two-year deal. That search continues with Marshall (6-5), a six-time Pro Bowl selection with eight 1,000-yard seasons over his 12 years in the NFL.

Jimmy didn't get much separation on his 10 touchdown catches last season. If Marshall is actually red zone target replacement at a fraction of the cost, it's not a bad option.

Jimmy is an excellent example...thank you!! Look at his 2 years prior. It took Russell, Bevell, and Pete 3 years to achieve that level of trust between QB and WR (TE). They were also forced into it since there was zero running game.

Jeremy Lane failed a Texans physical and was playing against Arizona a week later.

There's plenty of wiggle room when deciding whether someone will pass a physical or not.

I wouldn’t mind having him on a cap friendly deal but not at the cost of a hopeful getting cut.

We no longer have Bevel trying to hammer these square players into round holes, so the outcome may be a bit different. Or it might not if our history with receivers is the result Wilson refusing to throw into tight windows, or Carrol pressuring Wilson to avoid them.

Marshall doesn’t have a reputation of disappearing between the 20s, or just plain disappearing ala Harvin, so there is that.

I’d definitely give him a shot. We could use a 80% Marshall.

  • The Seahawks courted Marshall previously early in the Carroll tenure before Seattle picked up Sidney Rice.

Marshall could have gotten a ring if he had signed with Seattle at that time.

I would pass now. Marshall was the man. But now an old man and is over the hill done, 3 years ago, ish!

  • Marshall's main knock is the dropped passes; don't forget Jimmy dropped a hell of a lot more than Marshall at a $10M cap hit, and he couldn't block.

If Marshall can come in and block, make some high point red zone catches, I'd say a deal at the vet minimum makes sense for both.

  • I don't see anything in it for Marshall.

At 34 he's looking for a paycheck or a title. Neither are likely in Seattle this year.

I don't see much in it for the Seahawks.

We've been working all off-season to get younger/leaner/faster/hungrier with emphasis on buy-in to the Carroll Plan. Marshall displaces an up-and-coming player with future upside for a stop-gap with no future.

This. I'd say the chances of him being more than a red-zone specialist are slim and we need to stop acting like that is a need. I'm honestly baffled by the widespread desire for a RZ receiving specialist; it's an incredibly overvalued role and often costs way more on the field than it's worth.

  • If cheap, get him, sure, I don't see a negative here. 1 year deal, incentive based, cant go wrong. I have no idea why people instantly dismiss a veteran coming in for cheap. Kevin Williams was like 50 when he signed for us, and he was a great depth guy. Brandon knows we aint gonna pay him, so hes clearly willing to come in on a discount and actually finally play for a team that doesnt suck

Shoot, Dez might be a baby, but he's a hell of a red zone player. I don't like the guy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are considering him. That all being said, I prefer the younger guys get the reps.

  • He doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the moves this season and the culture 'reset'.

What happens when he gets arsey about not being targeted enough? His personality really doesn't seem to fit in with the 2018 Seahawks if you ask me.

I'd give his targets to Darboh/Moore/UDFA every single time and shorten their learning curve.

For anyone wanting to sign him: Which of the young developing receivers do you cut to make room for Marshall? Whose role is reduced to give Marshall snaps? And, is Marshall the kind of locker room guy who can help the young guys get better?

I would much rather see what we have in Moore, Darboh, Brown, and Grayson, than spend any resources ($$, roster spot, snap count, coaching) on Marshall.
