Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

  • Thanks Jville, the roster churn is continuing and I'd expect it to continue all season as the team is not cap strapped like last year and JS can continue to sift the castoff pile for players worth keeping or who fit with our scheme.

  • EDIT: The return of OL Marcus Henry in the aftermath of the loss of two offensive tackles may feed speculation that the versatile Ethan Pocic may see some snaps at tackle.

  • Just about every one of the DBs and most of players the Hawks have here are scooped up by other teams after they are released by the team. It speaks well of the regard the league has for the Hawks personnel offices.

  • At this stage until the team posts their 'Official DC' I'm not going to change the OP. To me it's pretty close to what we have from Condotta.

    It is interesting however.

  • They seem to have a lot of interest in veteran players who can teach and help with technique and tells. That was mentioned in the training camp video today with regards to Brandon Marshall's impact and considerable insight he is providing to quarterbacks and coaches in addition to receivers.

So, they are likely inviting a similar impact by Erik Walden on players and coaches with regard to pass rush.

At present I've listed Walden as a Leo DE, updated.

  • Thanks for that info on Hamm Jville.

I appreciate that Walden is listed around the league as a OLB and maybe the team will use him like that here. However, the weak spot as far as present depth is the Leo end which is what he's probably being looked at to play.

  • The corresponding release for the signing of Walden is now Marcus Smith 11.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9554/marcus-smith

I'd hoped the team would see something from both Smith and from Jordan but so far no joy.

Here are the rest of the roster moves as reported by John Boyle of TNT:

#Seahawks sign LB Erik Walden, RB Justin Stockton. Terminated contractor DE Marcus Smith. Waived CB Elijah Battle. @thenewstribune

  • A little disappointed that Smith's transition to linebacker didn't evolve as envisioned. His contract termination does move $400K in active cap money to the dead cap category while liberating and increasing the cap space by $1,010.945.

CB Elijah Battle only lasted 5 days. I think it increasingly obvious that belief in the strength of they're defensive backfield has grown as they emerge from training camp.

  • It is being reported by various sites that the team has traded a draft pick (believed to be 6th rounud) to the Packers for QB- Brett Hundley.

I'd be surprised if there will be more than two QBs kept on the 53 man roster so Davis is likely gone today and McGough will be waived to be picked up again on the PS, if he clears waivers at cutdown time.

  • I’m very curious to see what the team does with several players who really not been part of any legitimate competition for their roster spot. This will tell the story whether the ‘Always Compete’ mantra is a fiction or not. Last year there were a few decisions and roster spots kept that clearly were to us watchers somewhat undeserved.

Roster building is a curiosity to me and of course there is a factor of needed developmental time for younger players but the team’s recent success was built on allowing younger players an ability to seize a roster spot by their play rather than by their draft position.

Seattle sends a 7th round pick to Oakland for S- Shalom Luani

Seattle trades WR- Marcus Johnson to the Colts for TE- Darrell Daniels

Here are draft profiles for both players, both are very athletic.

    Luani: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/sha ... id=2558274

    Daniels: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/ ... id=2558253

  • Looking art the final 53 currently. The one thing that pops out is the notion that there is absolutely no depth whatsoever. This can get ugly if injuries start piling up. On the other hand most of the starters seem credible, so false expectations might arise if they start the season well.

Or, there is the argument that depth beyond the starters has been dismal since 2014 (see 2013-2016 draft classes- but that's another story).

To my eye, LB depth (minus no KJ) could be better than it's been in a while. DL depth has many question marks, but could end up solid. DB depth is a concern.

On offense, WR, OL, and RB look deeper than the past few. TE has bodies, but lots of ???

Overall, it could pan out alright.

There will need to be a corresponding cut when these two pass their physicals.

Condotta is speculating that Odhiambo is one of the two players to be waived or released.

Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.
