Depth Chart, Roster Moves, Cap Position

The team usually makes close to 300 roster moves/season ( last year only 246 largely due to cap limitations); the depth chart changes as injuries happen and/or players are added or subtracted as needed. I believe having a depth chart here is a good addition to the main board page so when the team changes players, knowing their player numbers, their names, and positional information is a good thing to be able to quickly refer to here without leaving the site. JS likes to churn the roster a bit to help the competitive situations at various positions.

Here is a current depth chart. I will record each further transaction in and out as they happen. This depth chart is just my opinion feel free to comment or suggest changes. The plan is to record all forthcoming roster moves and to adjust the DC as the roster changes are made. This gives a more accurate representation of the present depth on the roster going into the offseason.

Please, as ever, advise here of any changes as they happen. I will attempt to keep this depth chart current quickly after all changes, PS designations, waivers, cuts, additions, players claimed, PUP or injury designations, etc.. I will also attempt to keep it current throughout the season by indicating what the roster moves were after they happen. This sometimes involves a delay, sometimes life intervenes, and the delay may result in the update being slower to happen. However, I will make every effort to keep this page current. This hopefully will be a complete record.

As well I will update the presently available cap number on a weekly basis, or as quickly as information can be obtained from https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/seattle-seahawks/. Their number can be seen at the bottom of the page.

Here is the roster from Seahawks.com: http://www.seahawks.com/team/roster

Here now an initial DC from the team: http://www.seahawks.com/team/depth-chart

Thanks OP, was basing the picks from www.GBN.com who is usually accurate, but will list it. JS was busy last season trying to fix Cable’s mess, and a lot of picks were shopped around to find potential warm bodies.

This cap hole seems to be getting deeper and deeper.

What amount is presently factored into his deal? If it is a bonus could it not be prorated?

I'm struggling to see why it can't be prorated however given ESPN are actually clarifying an earlier error, I very much doubt it's wrong.

I haven't really been able to get my head around the Britt contract from the start, it's a real odd one.

My understanding is that option and signing bonuses are prorated. An option bonus is prorated over the remaining life of the contract up to a max of 5 years.

That was my understanding, but that doesn’t explain why the $5M bonus is being fully absorbed in 2018 (should the team choose the option) and not split over 18, 19 and 20.

I am fairly certain that Britt's cap figure on overthecap already includes the option bonus. One quarter of the 5 mil signing bonus + one third of the 5 mil option bonus (1.25 + 1.67 = 2.92).

^That's spot on.

It's the 'completely clean' in 2019 that is enticing to the team, not the low cap savings in 2018.

So the real questions the FO is asking are:

- are the cap savings of $2.175 million this year worth the opportunity cost of not having Bennett's contribution to the pass rush? He is still signed for 3 seasons and the cap savings next year (2019) is $5.262 million.

- has his play tailed off making him overpriced?

- is it a sensible move/necessary move to cut or trade Bennett when it seems clear Avril is done?

-won't eliminating Bennett create a clear draft need which may not be able to be filled?

- what might Bennett return if he was traded?

Britt got all of his $7.75 million salary for this year guaranteed Friday, from the extension he signed last summer. The Seahawks have an option to pay Britt another $5 million for 2020. If they decide to exercise that the team must make their center that payment between the start of the league year March 14 and March 18, his guarantee for this year reduces to $2.75 million.

The Seahawks are believed to have about $8.2 million in salary cap space for 2018 currently, a month before free agency begins. That’s after taking out approximately $6 million the team would need to sign the eight draft choices they are scheduled to select in April.

In terms of stark reality that $8.2 million in available cap is truly not very much considering the number of positions to fill and the number of FA players the team has this year.

If we additionally look at the roster and players under contract it can’t fail to noticed that there quite a few players who might not be around or even survive cuts. This combined with no 2nd day picks this draft certainly paints a bleak picture that speaks of the need for some deep changes to the roster.

Cap cuts will soon be upon us and some fan favourites are potentially liable to be moved out. These players all have relative value and I imagine Trader John is busy chatting up other teams in term of potential transactions.
