  • Solari coached the 49ers' dominant offensive line from 2010 until 2014, after coaching with the Seahawks.

  • hmmm our worst years in recent memory the Mora year and the last Holmgren year, I think we ranked like 25th in offense both those years. This should be interesting on how all these pieces fit together.

Coached for Schottys dad but had his best success with Vermeil there in KC.

He moved us to zone in 2008.

It'll depend on the talent. He coached some of the monsters we were drooling over in SF in recent years.

Also, this time Solari won't be protecting a QB who tempts defenses to blitz him because of a weakening arm.

  • "We’re very, very specific. Hand points, footwork placement, it’s all critical. To execute at the highest level in the NFL, you have to be on your game. It’s just in the little things.”

“I think the offensive line here, when you look at them, you’ll see a very good technique, very good fundamentals and an unbelievable relentless effort to finish.”

Great technique, fundamentals, and finishing? Yay!

  • Wow...I was about to post in the other OL Coach options thread that Mike Solari could be a potential candidate earlier but I forgot to do that as focusing on my job took precedence at that time. Good to see that my hunch was on track. Solari is a good hire and has considerable experience. Hopefully the Seahawks OL will benefit from him.

And ELI was still only sacked 31 times, as opposed to Wilson's 43. 12 fewer sacks? Sign me up! Two rushers with over 4.3ypc? I'll take that any day. The Giants problem was personality driven at the coaching level.

Really not sure where you are getting that. Giants had HORRIBLE talent on their offensive line, with numerous injuries. Yet they were ranked by DVOA as #10 in pass protection and #15 in run blocking.

  • Mike Holmgren was on 950 with Softy and recommended Seattle go back to Solari.

Maybe the Hawks' brass actually took note??!!

Bring in Walt as an assistant/consultant and you may have something here.

If you watch his "coach it up" video Solari talks about how important it is to have to O-Line coaches. You may be onto something.

  • So in his 2 years with the Giants, they gave up under 2 sacks per game on average. That's really good. But when he was with SF they gave up a lot more sacks. But keep in mind Colin Kneelernick was the QB most those years. If we draft well I can see this being a great move.

Not to mention, in SF they had to play against the #1 defense 2x per year during most seasons.

Yeah, Kaepernick was always horrible under any pressure. Pressure = sacks for Kaepernick. Anyone who actually watched those Whiner offensive lines knows how good they were upfront with Solari as coach.

  • Condotta has been Debby Downer this off-season. I'm really excited about losing the dead weight and seeing this new coaching staff come together. No more tug of war between the egos of Bevell and Cable. We are getting coaches who are single-minded in their vision for a balanced, diverse, and fundamentally sound offensive attack. It's like a beautiful dream that is finally coming to fruition.

  • Good Hire. I'd give it a B.

Going from Cable to Solari is going to have most fans feeling like it's an A+ though. Cable has set the bar so low.

I questioned if Solari was any good during the 08 & 09 seasons, but he has gone on to do a lot of good work since then.

    Good hire.
