  • Thanks Kitsap,
Have been waiting on the roster moves for this week, and am a bit surprised to not see anything about Kam.

Will update tonight when I get home as I am on the road right nowand it’s too hard to do it by telephone
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

  • Hawks are likely holding the Kam roster spot for Shead next week. No need to do it early. Something else might pop up.

  • Like Kam the Aboushi to IR move has not been made formally. The precarious cap position is most likely the reason.

This has been a horrible season for injuries, yet the team remains in contention for a playoff spot. This is a credit to the makeup of the team and it’s depth.

  • Hey Jammer,

I had to get away from the relentless pessimism for a couple of weeks. But, I'm happy to see that this tread has been maintained. I've reflected on the notion that Pete and John have now moved into uncharted territory with regards to the team cap. What they do from here on out should be very interesting and instructive.

I crossed paths with a published article on the subject that I thought you might find interesting >>> Already over salary cap, Seahawks need to create space to finish 2017 season per NFLPA >>> https://www.fieldgulls.com/2017/12/9/16741292/seattle-seahawks-nflpa-over-salary-cap-eddie-lacy-michael-bennett-blair-walsh-john-schneider

I wonder if this is cap related, or designed to circumvent the IR return rule? Maybe he comes back to the PS if he clears waivers?

  • That's strange about Coe being cut and Smith being brought back up so soon. Does anyone know if Coe played terrible on his only two snaps of a game last Sunday? Perhaps he did something behind the scenes (e.g., late to a team meeting) that the coaches did not like.

P.S. IIRC ...... OT- Justin Senior was called out for reporting to camp in disappointing condition. Who knows if that means anything in December or not :229031_shrug: just thought it worth recalling that he didn't start with a best effort to prepare for camp.

Rodney Coe processes a uniqueness they like to experiment with from time to time. I suspect that uniqueness has been a fit challenge for Carroll's 4-3. But, that is just speculation on my part.

  • I think that must be the direction the team is leaning towards.

Every other direction is cap prohibitive, and Shead could actually make the DB corps stronger for the last 2 games.

  • Given the rules the team could wait another week on Shead before deciding to activate him from PUP or to refer him to IR.

I'd suspect they'd want Shead more than Carson and will wait to see if the platyoffs are still in the cards before recalling Carson from IR. Delaying another week allows his ankle to be stronger still.

It will be interesing to see what direction the team moves in with these two.

  • This offseason is going to bring about many roster changes and several of the established players here who are aging or underperforming their contracts in one way or another will be not renewed, possibly traded, or released.

There are only 38 or 39 contracts which will be ineffect at the end of the league’s season or at the beginning of next year,s.

  • Thanks Jville! Interesting information. The Brown and Richardson trades certainly have changed the team’s cap plans somewhat.

This situation and the number of existent continuing contracts will make for some significant offseason turnover. Any player perceived to be und performing his deal will be under scrutiny as per usual. As well though there could be some offloading of veteran contracts as trades happen or some essential players get new deals. Some fixture players may be moved out to allow he team to become younger.

The ability to now trade compensatory picks has also factored into the cap machinations of JS and to the planning going forward. I wonder how the team now regards the acquisitions of this season especially those se kingly underperforming and comparatively expensive acquisitions of Joeckel and Lacy. They are both likely gone as the team can get equivalent or improved production from younger and cheaper players. I just can’t see the team renewing Graham at his present cap number or anything close to it. The Chancellor and Avril situations have pros and cons. JS will need to be very astute to avoid seeing a significant loss of talent this offseason.

I could see a few mid-range roster keeps from the guys already here but very few new new acquisitions except from the castoff piles.

To me it would be nice to see a few coaching changes but Pete seemingly may be overly loyal to some real underperforming coaches.

  • There is a chance Swoopes could be active for the season finale at Century Link ........

With tight ends Luke Willson and Nick Vannett both listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, the Seahawks made a roster move to add depth at that position, promoting rookie Tyrone Swoopes off the practice squad.
Willson sustained what Carroll described as a minor ankle sprain in Thursday’s practice and will be a gameday decision. Vannett was a late addition to the injury report Friday with a back injury.

  • Here is an interesting article on the state of the roster the team has 33 players presently under contract that are ERFAa, RFAs, or UFAs.

Lots of decisions to be made this offseason and lots of roster changes forthcoming.

    Here's the link:

    https://www.fieldgulls.com/2018/1/1/168 ... lson-walsh

    The players are:

    Exclusive Rights Free Agents (13)

    Josh Forrest
    Joey Hunt
    Branden Jackson
    Paul Dawson
    Quinton Jefferson
    Garrison Smith
    Tyler Ott
    J.D. McKissic
    Tyrone Swoopes
    Tyrus Thompson
    Christian French
    Jordan Simone
    Akeem King

    Restricted Free Agents (5)

    Dewey McDonald
    Dion Jordan
    Justin Coleman
    Mike Davis
    Thomas Rawls

    This season's tender numbers are:
A tender is an offer of a one year contract for a specific amount that is predetermined and uniform across the league. The three different tender levels are First Round tender ($3.91M for 2017; likely $4.1M - $4.25M for 2018), Second Round Tender ($2.746 million for 2017; likely $2.85M - $2.95M for 2018) and original round tender ($1.797M for the 2017; likely $1.9M - $2.0M for 2018).

    Unrestricted Free Agents (19)

    Jimmy Graham
    Luke Joeckel
    Eddie Lacy
    Sheldon Richardson
    Bradley McDougald
    Luke Willson
    Michael Wilhoite
    Paul Richardson
    Blair Walsh
    Marcus Smith
    Oday Aboushi
    Matt Tobin
    Terence Garvin
    Austin Davis
    Byron Maxwell
    DeShawn Shead
    Kache Palacio
    Jason Thompson
    Jalston Fowler

There a few names above that are significant FAs and with the large number of players out there as FAs of one type or another there will be a very large roster change going into next season. OTC says the the team presently has 37 players under contract for 2018.

  • Thanks Jville was waiting to see who would be offered a 'futures' contract from the PS.

Here are the six names extracted from the above linked info:

    OT- Isaiah Battle,
    OG- Willie Beavers,
    QB- Trevone Boykin,
    DB- Alex Carter,
    WR- Cyril Grayson Jr.,
    DE- Noble Nwachukwu.

All are developmental players save Boykin who has now served his seasonal penance for his stupidity and partying. I frankly think Boylin is a beter prospec fit for the team than Austin Davis but now his issues with probation have ended he should be free to compete next season to be RW's backup.

These players will be added to the team roster with an (F) designation beside theoir names.
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

  • All of the 2017 contracts should have been processed by now. The daily update from the NFLPA shows the Seahawks finishing the year over the cap by ($847,364). So $847,364 will be charged (subtracted) from a to-be-announced 2018 cap number for calculation of available cap and cap room. IIRC, exceeding the cap is something of a historic but necessary event for the Seattle Seahawks.

  • Isn’t that great, the team will carry over a negative cap balance to next years total. JS will really have to be creative to keep the strength of the team here.

There will be some familiar faces moved. It is inevitable.
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to consistently take the final step. The interior rush needs improvement. The OLine clearly still needs work.

Super Bowl XLVIII Champions at last after 38 seasons. Awesome!!!
