Depth Chart, Roster Moves, Cap Position

As usual the team makes close to 225-250 roster moves/season (occasionally more) and the depth chart changes as injuries happen and/or players are added or subtracted as needed. For us here I believe it’s a good addition to the main board page as often the team changes players, thus their player numbers, their names, etc. are a good thing to be able to quickly refer to. JS likes to churn the roster a bit to help the competitive situation at various positions. There will be lots of changes throughout the season.

I’ve waited until after free agency, the draft, and the initial post-draft UDFA crush to prepare an initial preliminary current depth chart. I will not count those players already moved in or out but will record each further transaction in and out from now on. Of course, this depth chart is just my opinion and we will all know more after TC. I welcome any comments on the depth chart and the positional designations therein. If there is a consensus about a player being wrongly located on the DC I’ll change this DC. The plan is to record all forthcoming roster moves and to adjust the DC as the roster changes are made.

Please advise here of any changes as they happen. Regardless, I will attempt to keep this depth chart current quickly after all changes, PS designations, waivers, cuts, additions, players claimed, PUP or injury designations, etc.. I will attempt to keep it current throughout the season by indicating what the roster moves were, after they happen. This sometimes involves a delay, sometimes life intervenes, and the delay may result in the update being slower to happen. However, I will make every effort to keep this page current. The changes are frequently in, out, and back in, with the PS churning enough to have an effective player number of greater than 10 players for each week just by the number of weekly transactions. JS seemingly keeps a ghost roster besides the regular PS. This hopefully will be a complete record.

As well I will update the presently available cap number on a weekly basis, or as quickly as information can be obtained. The number can be seen at the bottom of the page.

Here is the present roster from Seahawks.com: http://www.seahawks.com/team/roster

As well now here is the DC from the team: http://www.seahawks.com/team/depth-chart

Transaction number (after completion of signings following rookie mini camp, and all roster moves),

= 219 since this thread started, but actually so far since the beginning of free agency 315 which is about normal.

Present Available Cap Number as per OTC.com = $27,701,374
Note: this number should be viewed with suspicion as OTC.com has not got the full complement of players signed by the team listed in their calculations.

As well here is a pretty nifty CAP calculator for NFL teams with the added bonus of creating 'what if' scenarios, also from OTC.com.

That was a lot of work, so won't make many comments. Especially since it is so early and everyone has there own opinions on these type of rankings.

But just a few comments.

Why do you have Britt as the #1 center when he has "never" played the position. PC said they were going to "try" him out at that position, not give him the starting job.

Why do you have Clark at SLB, when PC clearly stated that he was a DE, not a LB? He should be backing either of our starting DE's.

Just my opinion.

By present cap number, I believe you mean present cap space available.

And you may want to add an asterisk that Marshawn's retirement is not reflected in that number.

Yes, cap space is present available cap space and I'm using the numbers provided by OTC.com. Isn't Marshawn's cap implication already factored with the filing of the retirement papers by the team?

I have Britt listed as a C b/c he is the most experienced OLineman the team has indicated will compete for the position. This of course may change if the team doesn't see Britt as a C. I can understand your concern there as Britt hasn't looked that good as either a T or G.

I have Clark provisionally at SOLB as someone will need to take Irvin's spot and Clemons appears to be the initial leader as the backup @RDE. Time will tell on this, but there is reason why Clark has slimmed down to 250 or thereabouts.

If I get another poster indicating both players should be moved to OG or Leo respectively I'll move them. As indicated the initial post is just my view.

Note: I have now replaced Clark at DE as it appears from his latest comments he will not be playing SOLB this coming season

OLB- Khairi Fort added. I've given him French's number 49 for now. Will change if there is a change.

Fortt's number is now 59.

Thanks, it'll work well if all of us can like Jville put the info here to be added to the DC post.

It's nice for us to be able to not leave the .Net site if we have a name or number question, and to be able to find a comparatively accurate DC too.

Yes, that is the cap space available AFTER factoring in Marshawn's retirement.

I suspect we shall see a roster move or two next week with the first full team OTA activity. Phase 3 of the preseason workout starts monday.

Thanks for the kind words. I enjoy doing this. It's a way of knowing each player on the team and their details. It can be frustrating when JS starts churning as needed for the team as players can be waived one day and added back the next. As stated in the OP the effective number of players on the PS is often greater than 10 if the numbers are added up for the week.

It works best when everyone on the board adds to the thread, with reported or tweeted roster moves. It's nice to have a thread where the roster can be quickly looked at, while a debate can commence on the DC once we know who the keepers are likely to be from the 90. However, it's a tad early for that part yet however once camp starts the discussion can get interesting.

I will keep this current and have done it before for a few seasons at the the old KFFL.com site (now defunct) as part of mock drafting where the DC was relevant. If it is interesting enough perhaps it may be seen relevant enough to be stickied so the DC and players names numbers, etc., are easier to find quickly. time will tell.

Please left me know if I've got a player wrongly positioned or numbered I will correct quickly.

Pretty sure Tre Madden was waived shortly after the draft.

Madden was signed shortly after the draft. No word yet on him having been waived. I think he was mentioned as a possible option to compete at fullback. His good pass blocking, decent hands, and physical running might also make him a promising 3rd down back, in the mold of Fred Jackson. Injuries are the biggest concerns for him. But he's listed on the roster for now:
