So who gets the franchise tag now if they use it?

With Wilson signed now, and it's inevitable that Wagner gets a new deal, who gets it? Either Okung or Irvin, right?

The problem becomes... do they have enough cap space this year to extend Bobby with a respectable (and acceptable to Bobby) signing bonus?... without cutting someone like Bane.

I'd guess "no"... given that Clayton speculated that if Wilson's signing bonus could be limited to $20M ($4M/year) that Seattle could have enough cap space to extend Wagner too.

Wilson's signing bonus of $31M ($6.2M/year) essentially takes away $2M in 2015 cap space more that Clayton's speculation.

They franchised Olindo Mare in their first year here (2010). They prefer not to use it but will do so if it makes sense.

People tend to forget that there are 53 guys on the final roster. They could re-work a contract or two to lessen the cap hit this year and still get Bobby done. We aren't in as bad a situation as people may assume.

The only choice would be BWagz, you aren't going to pay bruuuuuce that kind of money when you have young hungry linebackers behind him. Who else is coming up for Free Agency for sure at seasons end?

If they wanted to use that money on Bruce, they would have used their option. Bruce isn't getting that kind of cash from us.

I also don't think we use it on Wagner. I think we get Wagner a long term deal. As an Inside Linebacker, he's not likely to get that kind of money either. The tag number is inflated due to the high number some OLB who are pass rush specialists get paid.

So long Brandon Mebane. There is your extra cap space.....

Not this season. He will just play out this season and probably get a better deal from someone else next offseason.

I'm guessing Sweezy gets franchised, if anybody does.
So Sweezy is now a top-five guard???

They don't differentiate linemen by position, so Sweezy can't get the franchise tag either. It's already $13 million for offensive linemen.

The options are Okung, Mebane, Irvin, Ryan, and Sweezy. I wonder what the tag amount for punter is.

It's going to be too much for any of the free agents we have this year, so Carroll/Schneider can continue their reputation of paying their players top money and never using the franchise tag or fifth-year option.

My personal belief is that this is the year he makes all pro as the leagues best.

I think the Seahawks could give Wagner a 15-16m signing bonus. But mask some of it as a roster bonus.

7m across 5 yrs. 1.4 apy is managable and leaves the Seahawks with space in 2015.

In 2016, Seahawks could convert lets say a 8-9m roster bonus into a signing bonus. $2m apy + $1.4 apy across 4 years. Lets also say Wagners 2016 sal is a guaranteed 6-7 m that adds up his guaranteec money ($22m).

Wagner makes $9 m in 2015. Costs less than $2.5m.

Wagner makes $15m in 2016. Costs 10-11m. Likewise through years '17-'19.
