Maybe I missed it, but this is the first I'd heard of the signings.

he Seahawks have signed two players who participated in this past weekend's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Offensive guard Kona Schwenke and defensive end Julius Warmsley inked deals with Seattle on Monday afternoon.

Nothing yet on Kasen williams?

Schwenke made a big impression on Cable playing RT. Another converted DL.

I'm stoked about the o-line. They do what I used to do on NBA LIve--converting guys to different positions and opening everything up. They did it a few times--most notably with Red Bryant. I can't wait for this season. GO HAWKS!

Schwenke seems to be very athletic, has anyone seen any SPARQ numbers on him?

Here's his 2014 draft profile: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/ds ... &genpos=DT

It'd be nice if the team has scooped another diamond from the trash b/c of the positional change..

Schwenke (can't get Wayne's World out of my head with that one!) was the 8th highest ranked DT in terms of Sparq. One thing we learned, however, from Sokoli is that SPARQ rating increases dramatically moving from defense to offense. Sokoli went from a 2 sigma athlete at DT (still off the charts) to the NFL's first 4 sigma athlete when he was moved to OL.

BTW . . . take a look at that list of 3+ sigma ahtletes and tell me Sokoli will fail. I dare you.

I think the main reason why I am so optimistic about our current line is that we have seem to have really focused on guys who have the right attitude to succeed. We had a rough stretch there picking guys with potential but no inner motivation - Carpenter, Moffitt, Johnson, Bowie.

It may be a coincidence but I think they looked back on those failures and readjusted the emphasis on bringing the "Always Compete" attitude to the O-Line. We heard Lewis talk about being hungry last year and now Poole, Sokoli, and Glowinski's main soundbites have been centered on how highly motivated they each are to succeed.

Hopefully some other team hasn't already snagged Williams.

And I somehow omitted Jesse Davis, our UDFA tackle who thinks he can not only make the team but even compete for a starting job.

Actually the Hawks have signed 4 players from the tryouts. Tyrell Adams a LB from West Georgia and of course Brandon Cottom the big FB from Purdue.

Well, I think that's why the focus on young, hungry guys and not so much the old vets who are a bit jaded by it all and might be just playing out the string. Obviously a guy needs measurables and talent, but motivation and desire counts for a lot, too.

What the SPARQ guys leave out is that those numbers were put up by Sokoli and Schwenke at DL weights.....290 for Sokoli and 285 for Schwenke. After they add the 20-30 pounds they need for NFL interior O-line play, their testing numbers (specifically agility and leaps) will be negatively impacted, as will their overall SPARQ scores.

That's fair. Sokoli is calculated at 290 for SPARQ purposes. His NFL draft profile and Buffalo profile have him at 300.
NFL.com has Sweezy at 298 and Unger at 305 so his weight still falls in a comparable range to players at the same position on O-Line.

I can say I'm not willing to bet against Sokoli and suspect the result of a positional change for Schwenke may also be positive even though the skills needed for these guys to play the new position may not be instantly obtained. however the drafting of high SPARQ rating athletes offers the team a somewhat unique way of developing depth. In a sense perhaps it seems a bit Raideresque but without a doubt there may be merit in it.

This player Sokoli along with several others has been maximized to their highest and perhaps best position, time will tell however. The coaches seem to be very good at taking advantage or maximizing the use of player physicality. The significance of these positional changes should be a matter of great interest to us fans of the team. Besides Sokoli this offseason brings news that Pinkins and Schwenke will likely be looking forward to positional changes. Like the earlier Sweezy and Gilliam it may soon be the case that many of the new Olineman will be ex- DLine players or TEs.

I'm really interested in how much the positional change affects SPARQ rating. Pinkins seem to be a player who should have a huge SPARQ increase with a move to OLB with his speed and length. One would wonder if there are not other players the team may see as potentially better at other positions?

I wonder if it is not so much getting the best out of them but showing them different positions so they can be, as a team, more flexible in case of injury. In my career, I was moved from system to system with the basic knowledge and then expanded that knowledge to the next realm. Maybe they are doing the same here so as I said if someone goes down, we have backup or more flexibility or, even better yet, a different skill set in that position for that series of plays that changes what the offense/defense does. Not knowing the players skills and what he can bring to table in several different situations may make OC or DC nutty. Or I may be talking out my BS meter. Carry on.
