Go Hawks.

Not sure how Russell Wilson's contract is ever going to be kept private, but hey.

Proud of Russell for not taking the bait from the reporter's leading question, which wrongly insinuated that Schneider was saying Russell had more to prove to earn his second contract -- although I would not expect anything less from Russell Wilson. Schneider was actually discussing how much the team can reasonably allocate to one position at the expense of others under the salary cap. It had nothing to do with anything Russell has not proven.

Russell may want to keep these negotiations completely private, but the reality is that Schneider has a duty to keep the public informed of his general thought process during these negotiations. If he failed to do that, then we would see even more erroneous, anonymously-sourced speculation every day; that is basically what happened when the team went silent during the Marshawn Lynch negotiations, i.e. constant, erroneous speculation that the team was tired of Marshawn and did not plan to extend him.

Before Schneider spoke out, we were seeing erroneous speculation that the team was prepared to pay Russell in excess of $25 million per year or about a fully guaranteed contract that would burden the team in the long term with enormous risk.

The basic message from Schneider is he is working hard to negotiate Russell's second contract, the team has a proven track record of rewarding its core players, and the reality that there are salary cap limits to contend with, which constrict how much the team can reasonably allocate to Russell.
