In this day and age of football in the salary cap/free agency era, all a fan can really ask for is to compete for the championship every year. It's tough to win it all even when the talent is there. Fluke plays happen. Key guys get hurt. The coach calls a bad play or a player misses an assignment on a key play.

The 2014 Hawks were very good and among the elite teams. But damn it if they were not banged up on defense against a really good offense in NE. Go back one year and the 2013 Hawks destroy NE with a healthy DL and LOB. But that's football.

Under the ownership of Paul Allen (1997-current / 18 seasons), the Hawks have been a playoff team 10 times whereas they made it 4 times in the first 22 seasons. Granted the end of the Holmgren era with Ruskell and Mora was ugly but they hit the re-set button once that was clear.

Focusing on the current regime of Pete and Schneider, playoffs 4 out of 5 years that started out as a complete rebuild. The last 3 seasons have seen 2 SB's with 6 playoff wins and 2 narrow playoff losses. In addition, they have committed to keeping their core group of players together so that this team can contend annually by good drafting, good coaching/player development, and managing the cap fantastically.

Like everyone else, I hate that we didn't pull it out last night but it doesn't diminish how fortunate we are as a fan base to root for a team that has a legit shot for the foreseeable future.

Be thankful. Their are fan bases in places like Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland, and Tennessee that have no realistic hope right now.

This is a great attitude, glass half full. We are fortunate to have a good front office. John and Pete work well together. Hopefully we can win the next one in Santa Clara
