  • Started 23 games for the Rams at strong safety before being released.

Now they have two strong safeties in Alexander & Bradley McDougald, unless they trade Earl Thomas and McDougald plays FS.

  • Before being released during the 2017 season, PFF named Alexander the Rams' "secret superstar." LOL.

    S Maurice Alexander

    2016 snaps: 920

Key stat: Improved his PFF grade from 44.6 to 83.4 from 2015 to 2016.

Alexander saw 434 snaps in 2015 for the Rams, but this past season he started all year, replacing the departed Rodney McLeod. His coverage was the biggest leap in performance, and he notched two interceptions while allowing no scores when in primary coverage from his safety spot. Alexander only really had one poor game all season, a week 12 outing against the Saints in which he missed three tackles.

  • This guy is the epitome of "chip on shoulder."

Got kicked off college team for injuring a teammate badly in a fight at a party 6 years ago. Worked as a janitor at Rams stadium until he was allowed to re-join team. Moved to safety, got drafted by Rams, played at same stadium he worked as a janitor at.

Great back-story, and seems like another undervalued talent.

Seems very odd that no one signed him after he was waived last October......

Alexander, in the final year of his rookie contract, struggled in the first four games and began this week graded 73rd among 83 qualified NFL safeties by Pro Football Focus.

"We wish nothing but the best for Mo; I really enjoyed being around Mo," Rams coach Sean McVay said in his Monday news conference. "But I think it's a credit to the depth we've established at that safety position. There were some things where we expected a better level of play from him, and he knew that. Those things were communicated."

  • Forget the Rams. I don't give a lick what McVay says. This might be my favorite signing so far. I still want to see what Hill can do, but it didn't hurt to have too many hard hitting safeties.

  • For a guy many expected a big breakout year from, Mo just hasn’t had a great start to the year. With multiple questionable tackle attempts, the combo of Alexander and Cody Davis both missed tackles allowing Alfred Morris to gain 70-yards on one rushing attempt. Not only that, but Alexander got completely left in the dust in man coverage against Cowboys TE James Hanna, allowing a 28-yard TD that gave the Cowboys a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

  • We didn't sign a scrub, we signed a young player with starting experience at both safety spots. These are the kind of one year deals that can bear fruit. Good insurance if we trade Earl.

A scrub with experience as a starting safety who is not a bad player by any means.

He's a heatseeker, alpha dog-type that could be an absolute badass with some Hawk tackle coaching. I remember him absolutely thumping Jermaine Gresham a couple of years ago.

  • Dang, this guy is athletic! From Utah State, ala Bobby Wagner.

Converted Linebacker, drafted by the Rams in the 4th round and converted to DB.

    38" vertical at 220 pounds.

    10' 3" broad jump!

60 yard shuttle 11.82 seconds. I don't know that that means, but he was a top performer.

Was Jeff Fisher still the coach? He's had some success drafting DBs in the past.

    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/ ... id=2543677

Excellent size and frame for an NFL safety. Since he is a former linebacker, he possesses a physical mind frame to match his stature.

Hard-hitting, impact safety that makes his presence felt to receivers that go across the middle of the field on routes.

Shows great blitzing ability with his quickness and length. He can diagnose plays efficiently and attack the open gaps to get to the ball-carrier.

Good wrap-up tackler more often than not and can deliver big hits in the secondary. Tackling efficiently will be the key for Alexander as a run-stopping safety in the NFL.

Flashes the ability to close quickly on the ball, giving him upside as a deep, Cover 2 safety as he gains experience

. More NFL teams are asking their safeties to be “mirror” players, able to play up high in coverage and as a run-stopper, so Alexander will have to continue growing.

Sees the field well, as he will locate the direction of the play quickly and attack. His efficiency at the position despite inexperience is impressive.

Came back from adversity to be a team leader in 2013, seemingly overcoming the issues that led to missing the 2012 season.

    {Negatives: After he played linebacker in 2011, he was suspended for 2012 after pleading guilty to an assault charge. Alexander then returned in 2013 lighter, so he was moved to a linebacker and safety hybrid. As such, he’s relatively inexperienced.}

  • Sounds like a coaching job for Kam, pretty much the same breakdown as Kam had as well coming from college. That is our inside the box Safety and guy that will make receivers think twice about crossing the middle if he ahs the smarts to learn.
