I'm thinking we can work free agency like a draft. Not even week-to-week, really, just rotate 'FA Control'. If you have the bid, you can pick up whoever the hell you want. If you don't have the bid, post your Desired FA here and whoever's ahead of you can have the opportunity to go, "Hey, that's a good idea" and snatch him up.

With no real fair way to start, and since I just freshly pulled the idea out of my ass, I'm going to go with alphabetical order.

So, sammy keeps one of the aforementioned... ah, camp invites, then passes control to Snoho, then Spounge, then I'll pull up dead ass last.

As far as pace goes, I'm good with one full round per week -- With additional compensatory bids for significant (I'm thinking 4 weeks) injuries. Seconded?

Edit for Inability to Remember the Alphabet

I jettisoned all my "camp invites" except for Maroney (71 OVR) since I traded Ricky Williams (RB 80 OVR) for Jacob Tamme (TE 83 OVR).

Also, Kyle when's a good time for you to get our match in? I am available almost any night after 9PM. Just need to know at least a few hours before hand.

Crap. I have a really early schedule this week for work (I'm on Wichita time due to some meetings and getting up at 4:30am... and getting off work at 5:00... ugh), won't really be up past nine until Wednesday at the earliest. Maybe not until Thursday or Friday.

When can you squeeze a game in? I might be able to get a game in at noon PST. I'm sure you're working then but let me know.

I should be able to from 5-8 tomorrow. Sorry my schedule is so whack right now. Not loving it myself. Seriously, I'm going to bed at 8:20 because I have to wake up at 4am tomorrow.

Hm... that's kind of a no-go period for me. I can do 8 PM.

I crashed Wednesday around 7 while watching tv on my PS3. It must've turned itself off closer to 8. Anyways, I can make time whenever this weekend (though I'm booked Sunday 1-4 :P), just let me know.

Tonight sounds good. I'll be on around 8 then. If I'm playing BF just send me an invite and hopefully I'll see that. If some reason I am not on tonight, I WILL absolutely be on tomorrow before the game.

Actually, I'll be on when the Stanford/USC game ends. I'm not going to miss the end of this game.

Kyle and I just finished out game. Game was tied 7-7 at the half and it was pretty even... except I forced a punt late in the 2nd qtr and instead of fair-catching the ball around the 50, my guy signaled and then bailed allowing the ball to go back another 40 yards... So I had to march down the field and tie it up...

And then the game hate started. I'm already INT prone, but playing against a smarter player like Kyle is just a bad thing for me. Flacco (I) threw another 3 INTs along with a killer fumble deep in our own territory that pretty much ended the game for me. Kyle played a great game and deserved to win no question, while I was very sad and purple afterwards.

The only thing that really kept the game close for parts were Kyle's inability to kick a FG (Jay Feely Style) and two turnovers when he was marching and deep in the redzone. Unfortunately, I couldn't capitalize while Kyle and the Jets did. GG Kyle.

Final score 21-10 (Jets Win).

GG Sammy, I was worried throughout the game. Hope to see you in the playoffs.

Does everyone else hate the OL pass protection? I have my offline sliders cranked up so that I can complete a pass of more than 3 yards. My only shots more than 10 yards past the LOS were on blitzes, which seems a tad quick to me. Holding onto the ball any longer is just asking for the trouble.

I suck at field goals. I mean, I don't think Folk has much of a leg (that second kick I hit 98% power and he couldn't get it 51 yards. Loser.) but the first one was pure suck.

My corner's won the game. Picks for Revis, Cromartie, and Wilson. Allowed me to blitz like crazy which shut down Rice and beat up Flacco. They're seriously the only thing I like about this team, with a normal set of corners it'd have felt like playing as the Browns, which counts as one of the most frustrating experiences of my life.

This got me thinking, it really would be cool if we were in two divsions in different conferences (ideally we could pick the divisions that play eachother cross-conference). I know someone floated the idea and it kinda died on the vine, but it might be cool. One division would be tough because most divisions have a "suck" team (except the NFC North would probably work, I refuse to be the Vikings on moral grounds but I think they'd be a decent team and they're the "worst" of the bunch) that would be unfair (ie the Browns in the AFC North)... I'd be down for something like that either concurrently with this Franchise or after this season is over and I win it all :). It'd probably progress slower since we'd need to coordinate times, which is why I think it'd be a good league to run at the same time as this one. But you all have lives, so I don't know if you guys have the time.

Also... I picked up a FA QB rated 65 5'6' 120 lbs and is a girl. FYI. Jealous?

Yeah, I'd mentioned a single division league, simply because we have four people and it'd guarantee everyone plays one another every season. Same problems you mention, timing + who plays the suck team. With the free agency and trade problems that exist in online franchise, whoever gets the suck team is probably going to have the suck team for a few seasons.

Sammy, didn't get a chance to send that invite yet -- Though I'm wondering how good a prospect 'Probably can't play' indicates.

I also don't like single division because it'd make our postseason mostly against computers. But a two-division league would make for interesting postseasons. Same conference or not, I guess if we went in two conferences we'd get the chance for the SB to be for players.

Or, hell, a fantasy draft league would let us all put together the team we wanted and not worry about sucking quite so much with everyone on the same footing. THAT would require a little more planning, though, at least for the setup.

If I work with some stuff, what's a good time that everyone can be around? I work nights, so it'd have to be either stupid late or stupid early. Since I think I'm a couple time zones behind everyone, the former probably works better.

I'd be fine doing a fantasy draft, as well, but our teams will probably look a little unrealistic. Still, I bet it'd be loads of fun.

I'm usually home/able to be home from 4:30-9:00 (I can stay up til 10, 10:30) M-F. I can make time during the weekends as long as I'm not missing a Ducks or Seahawks game. I might have another ridiculous stretch of meetings next week, so if we do a weekday we should do it this week.

During the week I'm usually home anytime after 2:30 pm (pacific) and I don't mind staying a little late or getting up a little early. Weekends tend to be a little harder for me as I'm usually working until about 5, and when I'm not working I have homework to do.

Yeah, weekday nights are the best for me. I'm usually good after 8 depending on when my baby goes down.

I'm working Tuesday & Wednesday night. I'll see what I can set up and how it works out -- # of divisions, teams, whatever. I want to have enough CPU teams so we're not all ridiculous all-stars, so team-building comes into play a LITTLE bit.

Thursday or Friday night for a draft might work. Maybe 9pm Pacific.

Edit: I've discovered some annoying tendencies on the couple of fantasy drafts I've played with offline franchise. I'll go berserk on the O and D-line, and secondary, then oh-wait, a solid running back and tight end, but don't forget the linebackers... Next thing I know, I'm drafting Colt McCoy in the 27th round as my starting QB. I'm Pete Fricking Carroll.

Yeah I've ended up with lopsided teams in the past as well. I have a tendency to start the season as the lowest-ranked team in the league because I keep taking young guys instead of vets. I am consciously aiming to keep that to an almost reasonable level this game.

If we want to be in the same division, we should determine what division and what teams? I don't want to be Pittsburgh or the Browns, too much anger towards both teams. Or Minnesota because I have pride. Or Oakland. Otherwise I'm good wherever.

In order to do a fantasy draft, are we starting over in similar divisions (at least 2 teams in a division; all 4 teams in a division; etc) or can we do a fantasy draft with our current teams?

Honestly, if I can get away from this 1-3 team... I'll do it.

I'll mess around with it and see if I can come up with ideas. In the meantime, same house-rules regarding FA. Thinking of adding in a game starts HR, as well. (Dude, 7 starts? Suspicious person is suspicious.)

Yeah, sorry about that. My PS3 kept losing my connection at what seemed like random times last week. I think I figured it out though, it seemed to be happening when my roommates were online as well (I share a connection with 3 other people).

Also, if we are going to start over I would suggest that who ever is going to be commish makes sure that the latest rosters are downloaded before we start.

With a draft, I'm not too worried about the roster updates.

So, looking at teams people hate brings me to the following one-division or two-division options:

NFC South

AFC South

I'm looking at some options: 1-Division League or 2-Division League. Pros/Cons, getting the timing right, not too big of a deal with the small group. 2 division could -potentially- have a User Player SB, but with 28 CPU teams out there I'm not thinking it's a sure thing by any stretch.

Draft or No Draft. Obvious pros/cons there, as well. As far as a no-draft league goes, it looks like the AFC South is pretty tight, talent-wise... That's assuming a Manning-free Colts. Actually, even -with- Manning, the Colts aren't that horrifying. Latest roster is showing me: Texans 84, Titans 82, Colts 79, and Jaguars 83

NFC South split is a bit wider with the top/bottom group. Falcons 85, Saints 86, Buccs 82, Panthers 83.

Having a draft blasts that into pointlessness. So, the single division league makes the entire season a fight for the division title or a wildcard spot. Also guarantees there'd never be a User Super Bowl. A two-division team locks two players into playing each other twice and maybe playing the others? Either way, keeps the two married to one another for the season and fighting with the CPU teams for the playoff slot.

Thoughts?

Another cool idea if we did AFC/NFC South is that they play each other this year, so even if we split divisions 2-2 we'd play 4 user games (2 division games and 2 opposing conference division games) and we'd all play each other at least once. I'm down for that.

OK, here's the vote, if nobody objects:

Vote 1: AFC/NFC South, NFC South Only, AFC South Only.
Vote 2: Fantasy Draft: Y/N

My vote is AFC/NFC South.

Fantasy Draft - Meh... so I'll go "no."

I vote AFC/NFC South.

I'm neutral on the fantasy draft. I abstain from the vote. It could be fun, but it might get old roflstomping you guys with my hand-picked players :P.

I'm going with AFC/NFC South.

I also like the idea of a draft, it could give some balance.

Okay, so AFC/NFC South it is. Looks like an overwhelming 'Meh' on the fantasy draft thing. One yea, one nay, two abstains. Heh. Considering that it's more work, and can make for some weird teams, we can skip it.

Needing a system for team-picking. Naturally, I like the 'I'm from Texas, so I'll take the Texans and the rest of you can suck it' system... BUT in the interest of fairness, let's let the records in the original experimental franchise dictate.

Either way -- Just pipe up here with your AFC pick, your NFC pick, and preferred division. We'll sort it out from there. People picking the same can have a couple rounds of sack tapping for it. (Or, better current W/L record wins the pick.)

Me:

1.) AFC South: Texans
2.) NFC South: Panthers

I'd prefer the Bucs in the NFC and then the Jags in the AFC.

AFC - Titans, Colts, Jags, Texans
NFC - Panthers, Saints, Bucs, Falcons

AFC over NFC and in order of preference.

With the 3-1 record, Kyle's reserving the right to bump whomever the hell he wants, but we're standing at:

AFC South:
Sammy -- Titans
Trav -- Texans

NFC South:
Spounge -- Buccs

Conveniently enough, if Kyle pops in and takes either the Texans or the Titans, looks like Sammy or I would go to the Panthers as fallback. Hopefully we can square it all away tonight. I'm off work the next couple of days and can get things set up sometime tomorrow.

I have no problem moving to the NFC as the Panthers if Kyle wants the Flaming Thumbtacks. If Kyle takes your Texans I'm cool with the Colts unless you want to stay in the AFC.

Sorry guys. I meant to respond last night but I guess I forgot to hit submit.

I'll just take the Panthers. Worst to first, here we come!

Okay, then. I'll set it up either tomorrow morning or evening, then post the relevant info.

AFC South: Texans, Titans

NFC South: Buccs, Panthers.

Hard road in the NFC south with the Saints/Falcons. The AFC is wide open, unless Peyton decides to reappear and shred everyone (As he keeps doing in my offline, even with roster updates).

So, house rules: Rotating free agency control, starting with the weakest team. Starting order: Titans, Buccs, Panthers, Texans. (Giving the nod to Sammy's team because he was 1-3 in the first league, might as well make it worth -something-.)

Basically, can have up to 1 transaction per week. If it's your turn, just take whomever you want, drop whomever you want, then tell us about it. If someone is lollygagging around, and it's NOT your turn, announce your intended target here and the people in front of you get the opportunity to take that player before you. I'm going to start with a 24 hour window, there, as it's just less confusing and I want to keep things moving.

Try to keep the restarts to a minimum. I know the interbays can get twitchy, but just be mindful of it. I don't think I've ever had to have a restart, and I live in fricking Arkansas with a wifey and two kids. Work that scheisse out.

For future seasons, we'll have time to work out some specifics, but I'm leaning toward keeping the rotating system in place -- Obviously going by regular season record, etc., to determine who starts. Number of picks will depend on how many players you lose to retirement/free agency/etc.

I'm also led to understand that the game will just randomly remove players from the game when you draft a replacement. Not sure how true that is, or how it plays out, but worth looking into.

All clear?

Addition: Since there's really no FA or roster churn beyond the draft and retirement, I'm toying with the idea of allowing one CPU trade per season. Post the proposed trade here, we vote on it, majority to allow it as 'Fair'. (That way, even if your division opponent automatically votes against you, the other two can overrule.)

Thoughts?

Okay. All set up.

League: DotNet South
Pword: southnet

Definitely try to get some more people on board. Maybe limiting it to eight participants will have some sort of allure with the exclusivity or something.

So I started my game since I figure I wasn't gonna get a chance this weekend... and i can't help but throw a pick. Not even through the 2nd qtr and Hasselbeck's already thrown 2... pretty much on the same route to two different LBs in coverage. Hass did beat a press-coverage and went over the top for an easy TD.

Good news is that CJ2K is much better under my control than in real life and he's grinding out yards for me. My WR-core leaves something to be desired and might have to look into some trades or the FA if Nate Washington can't get any separation.

And after getting the ball with less than 2-minutes left in the half, CJ2K marches down the field converting 1st down after 1st down only to get shutdown in the redzone and Hass (I) throw another pick at the 1-yard line with 6 seconds left. Half-time score 14-7 Titans. CJ2K with 125 yards in the 1st half with 1 TD.

Opening the 2nd half, I hold the Jags to a 3 and out only to fumble the punt and they run it back for a TD... the previous play I forced a fumble and recover it at their 2-yard line only for Del Rio to challenge and get it overturned...

After the Jags take the lead on a FG in the 4th qtr I can't sustain a drive and have to punt down 3... on the ensuing drive, I take control of the blitzing CB and force a fumble with my LB picking it up for the TD. 21-17 Titans. Blaine Gabbert has been channeling Steve YOung because he's been scrambling like nobody's business converting more rushing 1st downs than MJD. Busted coverage and the Jags take the 24-21 lead with 1:47 in the 4th... I'm in trouble.

Until I find my TE streaking down the field untouched... I throw up a prayer hoping that Hass's ball can get there... TD Titans 28-24. With 50 seconds left in the 4th, I gotta hold them out of the endzone.

After two Hail Mary throws into the endzone, i stop them on 4th down and take a knee. Final score; Titans 28 Jags 24

Hass 13/28 172 Yards 2 TDs 3 INTs
CJ2k 29 Att 207 Yards 7.1 YPC 1 TD 4 Rec 42 Yards

Well, not only did Peyton Manning return from the dead, the refs decided that there was no possible way that Perfect Peyton could lose. The Texans full-on dominated the game, not a great deal of scoring, too many sloppy turnovers, but we picked off Manning three times, sacked him three or four times, had him looking twitchy. So, with a couple left in the fourth quarter, we're up 20-14. 3rd down and a crapload. Peyton drops back, gets hit... crappy ball drops to the ground. I'm thinking, 'Win!'.

Wait, there's a flag. Roughing the Passer. First time I'd even SEEN roughing the passer called. Frick. First down. So, of course, Manning pulls this gift second-chance drive out of his butt. Add another iffy 'reception' on the sideline by Garcon. I challenge. Refs laugh at me and pretend to review it. The Colts are coaxed into the endzone. 21-20 with 1:09 left to play.

Texans drive on up the field. Awesome. We're going to be able to pull this off. Walter makes a reception at the twenty and is tackled... the ball squirts out, clearly caused by the ground. No timeouts, no booth review. Screw you, it's a fumble, Peyton wins!

Colts 21, Texans 20

Most painful Madden Game in recent memory.

Dear Colts -- You're really putting single coverage on Andre Johnson? 10 receptions, 161 yards, 1 TD.
Rookie Brandon Harris picks off two Peyton Manning passes in his professional debut.

Entire team wants to kill selves.
