There's always debate about these things, but here's my most obvious "WTF"'s:

OL Rating
68 M. Wahle SEA LG 88
74 R. Willis SEA RT 65

Seriously? Your telling me Mike Wahle at his age and injury-prone is an 88, and Ray Willis is 23 points behind him? Wow

QB
15 S. Wallace SEA QB 69
Seems a bit low for Seneca, this rating is below more than 60% of the other backups in the NFL, which I have a hard time believing.

DL
90 C. Cole SEA DT 79
92 B. Mebane SEA DT 71

This is ludicrus, absolutely absurd. Colin Cole is a big body, he has shown no flashes of brilliance in his run-stopping or pass rushing abilities, he's a glorified obsticle. Brandon Mebane is an excellent pass rusher and has the opportunity to turn into the next Warren Sapp. Give me a break.

DB
25 B. Russell SEA FS 76
Wow, ok then. *Bong*

There are always a few insane madden ratings, like you said. But I am quite disappointed with Mebane and Willis.

Man, the Hawks WRs outside of Housh suck this year. All of their ratings took a dive (as they should have, but MAN).

EDIT: Nevermind, I guess. According to this: http://maddennfl.easports.com/cover.action the Hawks have the 7th best WR group in the game.

The hawks running game is ranked dead last. Guess I will be passing all the time.

They did change the ratings somewhat to create a bigger difference between good and bad teams/players.

However, the Mebane/Wahle ratings are inexcusable. The sheer stupidity they show is astonishing.

They said they were going to lower the ratings overall this year, and after looking at the other teams, these rankings seem consistent. The only slight I see is Mebane as a 71-- especially since they give Colin Cole a charitable 79. Also Steve Breaston is apparently a better receiver than Deion Branch.

Defensive tackle is one of those positions that can go under the radar for a long time (Mebane is a classic example). Then once they become a household name, they ride on their rep for years (Sapp).

So Madden doesn't know how good he is, no big deal, he's our secret weapon. :)

Well, Breaston did have over 1,000 yards receiving last year, so there's not really a case for Deion.

To be fair these are ratings based on last season I'm assuming. EA can update as the season see fits.

the developers are working their asses off and the logistic department is, well, less than adequate, IMO

the game doesn't change that much from year to year anyway - just a media frenzy

now exchange madden for pac man and the funky little dots for Brett Favre's weiner and you've got a game

Based on last season, which is what the ratings are based on, I really don't see anything wrong with any of these.

The ratings are not based on last season alone. EA is not so short-sighted that they're basing ratings on one year. If that were the case, Colston would not be an 87. Brady would not be a 98 or whatever. Our own Julius Jones gets a 75 after being 31st in rushing yards and 57th TDs.

And I guarantee you, Seanhawk, that Deion Branch is a better receiver than Steve Breaston. If you want to assign a numerical value to each player's ability, assuming health at the start of each season (as EA does when making their game) Branch should come out on top 100 times out of 100.

Based on last season, which is what the ratings are based on, I really don't see anything wrong with any of these.

I'm also not sure I'd expect any of those QBs to have lesser seasons than Matt. Certainly they all can make compelling cases for having a better year, at least. Matt could have a great year, for sure. But I can't be mad for them taking the "Guilty till proven innocent" stance with a 33 year old QB coming off a horrible, injury-filled year on a bad team.

Normally I rant on EA for making veterans have ratings way way higher than they deserve, but they did the right thing and killed Matt's rating... I'd be a little more impressed if they did that for a guy on the east coast, though. Or if they'd do it for Mike Wahle.

SO looking forward to this. Getting real tired of having to use Seneca online.
