  • So pumped that we got Keith Price, who if he bulks up, would be the 2nd best QB on our roster within a year or two, perhaps immediately.

It's neat that we got Brock Coyle too, one of the most heralded combine stars to come out of a small school this year.

I've heard a lot about Jackson Jeffcoat, time to head over to draft breakdown.

Don't know much about Sims, but PC's track record with late round / UDFA guys from USC has been very strong.

This is already one of the most impressive UDFA hauls Seattle's had in the PC/JS era in terms of "names", looks like the brochure idea worked.

  • Only a couple years since Price was a potential Heisman candidate. Glad he's a Hawk now, sad he dropped from those heights to UDFA.

  • Oof! Lotta sites going from "rumored signings" to adding a bunch more and just calling them "rumored signings or tryouts", so stand by for a lot of changes and unconfirmed stuff, at least until the Seahawks themselves announce it.

  • Yeah, that is the thing about the UDFA stuff. Folks will say they are going to a team and turn around and go to another. Blount was originally going to the 9ers and ended up with the Bucs. Until the UDFAs are listed, I take it with a grain of salt.

And the Rookie mini-camp tryouts, since they aren't signed with the team they can change their mind about coming in.

  • I'm actually astonished that Jeffcoat wasn't drafted. There must be some issue with his shoulders as that was his last injury. He's a good pass rusher. He's a high SPARQ player too. Hope it has nothing to do with character.

Genuinely like the additions of Coyle and Price, thought Coyle would be be drafted, think Price who was could be a better QB than several of the guys we have on our team already was criminally underrated.
Until we develop a pass rush that will cause opposing teams to be forced to scheme to defend it we will never be able to completely take the final step. That was done and the final step was taken. The OLine still needs work.

  • Garry Gilliam went undrafted because he made a switch from Tight end to tackle. Had knee problems a couple years back. But he was not that bad last year. Very raw wouldnt be surprise if he made our team as a Tight end. Very interesting pick I think the kid can ball. Take it from a Penn State homer I hope he makes the squad. Only thing is he has not played the position that long should be interesting. I like the Jeffcoat pick up as well. I think we may be surprise by the Gilliam pick up guys I wish him the best of luck.

Probably didn't hurt, but I doubt it. It has to be pretty enticing to get a call from PC/JS and having them offer you an opportunity to come to camp and try out for a spot on a SB defending squad that boasts one of the best defenses in the modern era (I say all-time, but that usually gets me called a homer). He would be surrounded by young veterans who would see to it that he is hungry and would get better.

Also, and I am going to sound COMPLETELY crazy, but it's not a crazy thought. Uniforms. Being an Oregon fan, I think you would agree that uniform design is a big sell to high school kids, and these dudes aren't long past their high school days. I think those things matter, but it's kind of weird to say it. I just think it's a factor that might play into it. Then again, I could be completely wrong.

Other than Paul Richardson, Jeffcoat is the kid I am most excited about following this draft. I think it's going to pay enormous dividends for our defense and raise the competition bar yet again.

  • Interesting to see what CBS had to say about Price:

STRENGTHS: Scouts need not look much further down I-5 to see an undersized dual-threat passer in the Seahawks' Russell Wilson. Price is similarly light on his feet, showing good elusiveness to buy time in the pocket, as well as rolling out. He possesses adequate arm strength and throws a tight-spinning ball with good accuracy. Excellent mobility and toughness in buying time in the pocket, as well as scrambling, when necessary.
WEAKNESSES: Undersized at only 6-feet-1 and a shade over 202 pounds. Good, but not elite arm strength.NFL Comparison: Russell Wilson, Seahawks--Rob Rang

I don't know jack about him but the link below lists some possible issues:

[quote]He ended up with 13 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 4 passes deflected, and 2 forced fumbles. However, this doesn't seem to provide any comfort to any NFL teams. The knocks on his play are inconsistency and lack of strength or muscular definition. The latter most likely contributed to his pectoral injuries./quote]

    http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2014/5/10/ ... nd-sleeper

He has had a lot of injuries. Still even they had him as a mid round pick. Glad we got him as UDFA.

Sorry, sir, but I need to call you out on your own 'call out' here, and suggest that JJ is absolutely NOT a "beast." And I'm a U. of Texas grad, so I feel like I know one or two things about JJ and am not coming at this from some sort of uneducated perspective. First off, let the record reflect, I'm thrilled that we signed JJ. After he went undrafted I kind of saw this one coming, as PC recruited JJ to USC and JJ ultimately chose Texas over USC in the end (they were his final two). One of the main reasons that JJ went undrafted is that he does have multiple injury red flags, and there is significant concern in Austin about his pectoral situation being a 'habitual' one. He also is a very limited run-down defender, and is unlikely to ever achieve 'early-down' capability as a LEO DE. IOW, what you're getting here is a pass-rush specialist who has to be protected on early downs, a 'situational' player at best, and not even an elite one. As a pass rusher, his SPARQ scores notwithstanding, JJ is not an elite 'burst' athlete who is going to bend and close on the QB at the type of level that a championship-caliber team like the Hawks are going to trot out there and ask to get to (or contain) the Kaepernick's of the world on 3rd-and-10. Is he a solid pass-rushing LEO prospect in a 'protected' role? Yes. Is he an elite difference-maker in those situations, or one who can get you through a game as an early-down non-liability against the run? Absolutely not. Again, I like JJ, he did some great things for the Horns during his time in Austin, and was well-coached by UT DE's coach Oscar Giles who has developed numerous NFL pass-rushers (Orakpo, Melton, Houston, Robison, et al). But he is NOT a "beast," and he's does not project at a difference-making level, never mind his injury situation.

  • One more thing I'll mention about Jackson Jeffcoat - which admittedly is a subjective one - but one that I've heard a lot from those around the program in Austin, is that he lacks a passion for the game. That he plays the game more out of a sense of 'duty' as the son of an ex-NFL Super Bowl Champion DE, and because he's good at it, than because he has a burning inner-desire for greatness and a love for the game. That's not to say that he's considered a prima-donna or anything like that, but I've heard from more than one person close to the UT program that football is not something that inherently motivates JJ each day, unlike the Russell Wilson's of the world (or even the Greg Scruggs').

  • I honestly don't know (or care) enough about Kellen Winslow to draw that comparison. That being said, the questions about Jeffcoat's desire are real, which seems to contradict what PC/JS look for. I really hope that PC, Quinn, Travis Jones, et al can 'dial into' JJ's inner desire and pull it out of him, because he does bring some nice pass-rushing acumen to the table.

  • Well if he has injury issues that need to be fixed so he can go all out we will give him that chance here, also Ken Norton Jr I am sure knows about the kids heart and drive, I am sure he has spoken with Jim Jeffcoat as well concerning him and what and if there is a problem that is causing the rumors to fly. It don't cost us anything to bring him in and get a good read, if it's a correctable situation with injuries he may go beast without worring about if he's going to get hurt. You protect injured parts and that may be part of his motivational issues if they are even there.
