Ha! No, I wasn't clairvoyant about this guy when I put the placeholder thread in. Sorry, Jimmy "The Placeholder" Staten, for your brand new nickname!

Our sixth pick of the draft. Discuss.

  • (placeholder response to 5th round pick, in case I leave to do something else )

Excellent choice. This guy can really play within the right system. He clearly has the athletic ability, now let's see if he's willing to be coached up to the next level.

His off field issues, though horrifying at first, display how much passion he has (particularly his passion for robbing liquor-stores).

  • I'm ready to pass judgment on a guy that I have never seen in a Seahawk uniform, before the staff has even had a chance to coach him up. I already don't like him because Kiper said so.

Don't know typical NFL network. Didn't say a word, just talked a bunch of spin about everything else.

Not even listed on SI players in draft.

I was just about to say the same. Sailor knew something, called him a place holder and left. LOL

Appears according to all the sports sites he has never played football. No where to be found. That is why the broadcast didn't talk about him they didn't know anything about him. HA HA

  • Much of Staten’s anxiety and draft status hinge on what position he will play. Currently at 6-foot-4 ½ and 310 pounds, he could play defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme. But if he is picked up by a team with a 3-4 scheme, Staten would likely bump his weight up to between 320 and 330 pounds to play nose tackle.

“I don’t mind doing that. It won’t be hard because I can gain weight and I love eating,” said Staten, a powerful weight-lifter who did 30 reps of the 225-pound bench press at Pro Day.

Awesome :) Strong kid who loves to eat!

  • From a Packers sight -"He’s already visited the Chargers and Patriots and also has a trip to Kansas City planned.

The interest around the league lies in this — 6-3, 311 pounds.

  • [quote]STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES

STRENGTHS: Naturally strong man who posted 30 reps at 225 pounds at his pro day. Good agility for his size, with a 27-inch vertical jump. If he proves to have enough bulk without losing his quickness, Staten offers scheme versatility as a backup at multiple positions.

I'm guessing that's a different J. Staten, unless Jimmy converted from CB/WR to 300 pound DT in the last three years.

  • I do think that there is a strong chance Brandon Mebane is cut next year. The contract/salary cap hit is low but it is $5.5M with about $200K of dead money if they cut him. That is a $5.3M cap savings. Hate to see Meebs hit the road but I see Avril moving on after this year and Meebs being a salary cap casualty.

BTW, I am going to adopt that Marsh kid as my Adopt-a-Rookie. He could be a surprise. Dude has a nice look to him as a defensive hell-raiser.
