I've been searching for Seattle-centric big boards centered on our positional needs going into the 2014 draft but haven't been able to find much, so in order to generate some discussion I thought it'd be a good idea to create one ourselves for those prospects we believe there's a realistic possibility the FO may target, or any we like or decide would be good fit in the Hawks system.

It's early(still a lot of tape to watch), and therefore a work in progress, but this is where I'm at thus far. Draft grades are in parenthesis:

Seattle Seahawks 2014 Big Board

QB -

RB - De’Anthony Thomas(6-7)

FB -

WR - Kelvin Benjamin(2), Jarvis Landry(2), Donte Moncrief(3-4), L’Damian Washington(4-5), Kasen Williams(4-5)

TE - Eric Ebron(1), Austin S. Jenkins(1-2), Arthur Lynch(2), Colt Lyerla(3-4), Marcel Jensen(3-4)

OT - Antonio Richardson(1-2), La’el Collins(2), Juwuan James(3),
Seantrel Henderson(3), Morgan Moses(4)

OG - David Yankey(1), Cyril Richardson(1-2), Xavier Su’a-Filo(2), Gabe Jackson(3), Brandon Linder(5)

C -

DE - Kony Ealy(1-2), Jackson Jeffcoat(2-3), Randy Gregory(2-3), Larry Webster(4-5), Lynden Trail(6-7)

DT - RaShede Hageman(1), Da’Quan Jones(2), Timmy Jernigan(2), Dominique Easley(3-4), DeAndre Coleman(5-6)

ILB - A.J. Johnson(4), Lamin Barrow(4), DeDe Lattimore(6)

OLB/Leo - Vic Beasley(1), Kyle Van Noy(2), Christian Jones(2-3), Ronald Powell(4-5), Boseko Lokombo(6)

CB - Keith McGill(3), Stanley Jean-Baptiste(4), Jaylen Watkins(5), Antone Exum(5-6)

FS - Avery Patterson(5), Elisha Olabode(7)

SS - Hakeem Smith(5)

10. Stanley Jean-Baptiste

On paper Jean-Baptiste is the most impressive Nebraska cornerback with his height and length at the position, but so far his on-field ability has yet to catch up to expectations. A former receiver, he switched to corner prior to his sophomore season and shows potential, but still struggles with mental errors and might be fool's gold as a pro prospect. - Dane Brugler

How I think we'll approach day 1:

I'm convinced we're content enough with our depth that we wont go OL early unless a talent like Kouandjio falls. Perhaps if we come up with a third, but not in the 1st/2nd. Given Pete and John's history, we're more likely to wait until the later rounds for a Gabe Jackson, Seantrel Henderson, or Morgan Moses. On day one, I suspect they'll be looking for potential replacements for one, or two of: Miller, Bryant, Rice, Clemons.

Im thinking a versatile/athletic DE prospect(Ealy-Hageman-Beasley), or a versatile/athletic TE prospect(Ebron-ASJ) in the first. If we go DL/Leo in the 1st and the TE talent is dried up at the bottom of the second, I wouldn't be shocked at receiver(KB-Landry) and someone like Lyerla in the 4th-5th.

Any thoughts, critiques, or additions are welcome.

If Deanthony Thomas is going to be a 6 to 7th round prospect, then no way in hell he leaves school early.

Tiers of need:

Tier 1 (1st and 2nd rounds)

DE, LEO

Tier 2 (4th and 5th rounds)

WR, Ertz/Eifert type TE prospect

Tier 3 (6th round - UDFA

OL, LB, CB

I like your "favorite prospects", but I couldn't see us taking ASJ in the first or second round. I like Eric Ebron alot (notice how his name is almost LeBron) but if he was somehow available at our 64th pick, he'd be awesome.

I think we will go OL if someone falls to our pick. Sweezy hasn't been playing that well and Carp is hit or miss. Breno and McQ are FA too. I think Bailey and Bowie showed enough to help us next year but the depth is very thin.

Depending on what they do with Tate and Rice we might be very thin at WR too. Again if someone falls I wouldn't be surprised if we grab a WR.

I think we also need some more LB depth and S depth too. I don't think we'd draft those positions that early because of who the starters are but you never know what JS will do.

Ya, I don't think there is any way he gets out of the 2nd. Tavon went top 10. Someone will take him in first 2 rounds, wouldn't be surprised to see round 1. Don't care how small he is. Can be scat back, slot receiver, returner....very valuable all around player that is a threat every time he touches the ball.

I would add Terrance Mitchell to the Cb spot. Compares well to Maxwell, but more pro ready at the same stage. 6ft 195, has the size Pete likes and has great ball skills, and a 3 year starter.

I have a few mid-to-late round and UDFA possibilities I’m keeping an eye on.

----DL-Kareem Martin, North Carolina, 6-5, 265, 4.82/40. Production = pretty darn good.
2013: In 12 games: 11 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, 3 passes broken up, 14 QB hurries, 3 forced fumbles. Martin has decent long speed for a DL guy. Martin is currently a round 4, 5 or 6 possibility.

----DT-Caraun Reid(135), Princeton, 6-2, 305, 4.88/40 If nothing else, he’s smart. Rd's 4-5

----DE-James Gayle, Virgina Tech, 6-4, 255, 4.58/40 A potential LEO? Rd. 4/5

----DE-Larry Webster, Bloomsburg, 6-6, 240, 4.67/40. Freak alert. His level of competition is trumped by his Great bloodlines. Rd 6/7.

Deep Sleepers that could be potential selections in round 6/7 or as UDFA’s:

----WR-Jeff Janis, Saginaw Valley St, 6-3, 218, 4.34-4.43/40 (I've seen both). Huge production, but a small school guy without much tape available, his combine #’s could be extremely impressive.
----OLB-Howard Jones, Shepherd, 6-4, 238, 4.45/40. A Size/speed developmental guy? Early on, he’s the fastest LB in this draft, combine #’s will tell a few things. Again, not much tape available.
----OG-Brian Clarke, Bloomsburg, 6-3, 306, (reportedly he's a VERY strong & mean guy) Another small school guy, will his strength/attitude transfer to the pro game?

Last but not least:

----WR-Martavis Bryant, Clemson, 6-4, 200, ???/40. Currently ranked as UDFA.
My initial research turned up the following quote/link. I find it intriguing that he’s the “fastest player” on his team (which includes 1-st rounder Sammy Watkins). If all this guy lacks is confidence, I can easily see him as a Seahawks late round pick for further development. The combine could flush out some good numbers? I have a lot of tape study ahead of me on this guy. Any opinions out there?

“”Clemson wide receiver Martavis Bryant, according to offensive coordinator Chad Morris, is “every bit as good of an athlete as Sammy Watkins. The biggest thing with him is just being able to play consistently, be the same guy every day. That’s the thing you like to see with him. - *He’s as talented a wide receiver as we’ve got. He’s the fastest guy on the team*. - He’s big, he provides mismatches. It’s just getting his confidence up to where he needs to play at.”“

Good call on those two, especially Larry Webster. But with Bryant, I have concerns with him being an athlete trying to play football, as opposed to a football player whose a good athlete.

With Sherman and Earl due to be paid, and Zach Millers cap hit, I wouldn't be shocked nor against a TE being taken in the 1st given the talent level warrants it.

Bryant is defiantly an intriguing prospect and like him as well as a late round prospect. I created a post on him a couple of months ago. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=77284

Jeff Janis has been invited to play in the Senior Bowl and for me he is a must watch. I want to see how he matches up against better competition.

Bryant declared for the draft today. I would rather draft Bryant in the 5th round than Brandon Coleman in the 2nd round. Both are tall, fast, but raw WRs. Both IMO are body catchers not jump ball WRs and both have average body control to go and get off-errant balls. As someone else described Coleman, he and Bryant are similar to former Seahawks WR Stephen Williams. Williams had great size and speed, but he was more athlete than football player.

Brandon Coleman screams Seahawks. 6'6" WR, long arms, good hands, fast. Good college production. Sistine chapel ceiling upside with downside that resembles Stephen Williams, a guy JS was positively geeked to get on the cheap last winter. He's erratic and looks totally lost at times. Seattle passed on a lot of good WR prospects last year to take a similarly flawed player in the 4th round last year. Sometimes those guys turn into Kris Durhams and sometimes they turn into Jordy Nelson. Seattle is due for a Jordy Nelson.

Coleman would be a solid value pick at the end of the first round too. Don't forget Seattle's glaring need for weapons, red line receivers, and the probable departure of Sidney Rice. A ton will change between now and the draft but I've rarely seen a player who so emphatically fits a Seattle first round pick.

Our offense is so simple to pick up I could see Seattle being a perfect landing spot from Coleman's POV too. Wouldn't be hard to see him breaking out by year two the way Jeffery and Gordon just did for the Bears and Browns.

I'd celebrate an ASJ pick as well, because it would likely signal a shift in offensive philosophy for the better. ASJ is at his best over the middle of the field, and Seattle throws the fewest passes over the middle in the NFL. IMO, that needs to change, but personnel could be the reason behind that tendency.

My enthusiasm for long tall leaping receivers has soften a lot with the injury results.

The Stephen Williams and Sidney Rice injuries are two that really stood out to me. I can visualize how more injuries could be on the way for both of them.

I want TE or WR in round 1. That, is our biggest need. Someone tall and fast for Russell Wilson to throw the ball to.
