Kidder 2013 Foolhardy Draft Fun

My first post... so go easy.

To help pass the time until the draft, I dabble on mocking Seattle players using player rankings from various draft outlets. These two below are derived using NFLDraftScout.com. The first draft supposes that Flynn is traded. The second supposes he stays:

The focus of the first, QB focused draft is as follows
1) Establish competition at right tackle with a raw but talented player that would benefit from Seattle coaching (High Upside)
2) Use Simon as a third down WILL rush linebacker specialist in our pseudo 3-4 looks (Unique Traits)
3) Further the 3rd down bandit package with a pure 3-gap rush tackle (Unique Traits)
4) Establish competition at the QB position with a raw but talented player that would benefit from Seattle coaching (High Upside)
5) Establish competition at the CB position, with focus on length, speed, and ball awareness (Diamond in Rough)
6) Establish competition at the WILL position, with focus on length and ability to diagnose plays, make tackles (Special Teams)
7) Establish competition at CB and special teams, with focus on length and speed (Special Teams)
8) Establish competition at the FS spot with length, height, and speed ratios to complement scheme (Special Teams)
9) Establish competition at the 5th WR spot with height, weigh, speed and YAC (High Upside)
10) Establish competition at the RB spot with size, speed, balance (High Upside)

3) Use Quinn's insights and need for OLB help, using Jenkin's decent size and great quickness (Unique Traits)
4) Establish competition for the 1-tech position with Mebane not getting any younger (High Upside)
5) My favorite pick, CB to bring competition to BB with height, weight, length (High Upside)
6) A reach for a TE that may make a difference (Reach)
7) Mr. English preferred 2013 backup QB, and one I saw on a weekly basis here in Charlotte. Kid can ball (High Upside)
8) Establish competition at the FS spot with length, height, and speed ratios to complement scheme (Special Teams)
9) Establish competition at the 5th WR spot with height, weigh, speed and YAC (High Upside)
10) Establish competition at the RB spot with size, speed, balance (High Upside)

Nice work. I like Watson. Knile Davis in the 7th could be a steal.

Knile Davis in the 7th is surely a stretch. Again, I based my selections using NFLDraftScout's rankings. That is as good as there is out there. That being said, RBs do tend to slide, and there are quite a few out there this year.

My challenge was in taking Simon. Rumors are that Pittsburgh feels he can be a good replacement for Harrison. That intrigues me. Free agency has shown Seattle to be moving away from the 4-3 under even more than in 2012. But they still have the bandit package they seem to love. Simon on 3rd down, at least as a rookie, would be enticing.

The other two players I'm really excited for, and expect to be gone in the real work prior to my mock, are Scott and Comings. I am a UA grad, and admittedly biased, but Scott has been good for many years. He was stuck behind Foles. I'm not a big fan of Foles, but I am of Scott. I loved him in the SC game. And what he did in the bowl game was unbelievable. He has mold-able talent, but would fail most likely if rushed.

Living in the south, there are plenty of football games to be seen each Saturday, and one of my favorite teams is "old ball coach" South Carolina. Comings game appeals to me. He is strongest in press, has loose hips, and decent short area speed. That said, when you watch South Carolina football, he just shows up. He always is in the right place. He, in my mind is way underrated.

I am also smitten with Ace Sanders. I'm just not sure we have room for a return ace with the addition of Harvin.

Wow, I just hurt my own creditability. My bad, Comings plays for Georgia. Ugh. I could fudge and say I meant D.J. Swearinger... but that would be untrue.

Sanders Comings is a really good idea. I like Darius Slay also.

You'll never get Matt Scott at 138, though I would love to.
Knile Davis at 242? A shame I only have two thumbs to put up.
I like the Mark Harrison pick as well.

Good work here, I would squirrel dance all around the house
with either draft.
