  • I remember last year you were front and center on a lot of recruiting news. It's about that time of year again - what're you hearing for the UW and UO?

And what twitter feeds do you recommend for recruiting?

  • I dont have twitter. I get my info from Duckterritory.com (which is part of the 247 sports network which is the best for recruiting info. Most teams have individual sites, unfortunatly UW doesnt have their own site yet... which is kind fo wierd) and rivals. But Greg Biggins is the best "recruiting guru" on the west coast so if i had twitter i'd probably follow that guy.

Check your PM's for some other info.

Incorrect. Tyner hosted 7 Oregon coaches in his house last night. He is done with the recruiting process and 100% Duck. If Gary Campbell (the RB's coach) would have left with Chip Kelly, or if Oregon had hired an outside coach who changed over quite a bit of the staff, then I would have worried. With the staff staying almost entirely in tact though it doesnt look like any of our commits are going to decommit.

UW and Tuiasasoppo did try though. I know Tuiasosoppo was in Tyner's house pretty quickly after Chip leaving was announced.

  • I visit SBN's site UWDawgpound.com for Husky recruiting news. I don't know if they break stuff the very fastest, but they tend to be pretty comprehensive.

Huskies have a verbal from Joe Mathis, who is one of the most ripped looking HS kid's I've seen. 5 star DE/DT recruit. Watched some HS tape and he looks like a beast as a pass rusher. Great pick up by UW.

They also got another 3 star / 4 star WR in John Ross. Not sure if Jermaine Kelly is a safety or WR, but if he's a WR that means UW has 4 notable WR commits this year. As I've been saying adding WRs this year is absolutely key for UW. Lots of credit to Sark and his recruiting team for recognizing this.

Everyone is saying that this is UW's best recruiting class so far in terms of talent haul. Kinda wish they had recuited OL better this year, but they really went after WR hard and I commend them for that. Despite ASJ, a lack of quality targets was a big problem for UW's offense last year.

  • I would not recommend that Oregon scout site. Its kind of the equivelent of Dawgman.

And to kearly, everything i've read says that Jermaine Kelly is going to be a cornerback. UW has done really well on the d'line and at WR's this cycle. If i were a UW fan though i'd be pretty worried about o'line recruiting.

Where are you seein that Joe Mathis is a five star? I just looked at espn, yahoo, scout, and rivals and they all have him as a middle of the pack 4 star. I do think he's going to be a stud and a good player, but I dont see 5 star anywhere. On the site that I trust the most, 247, he's not even yoru top rated DT, he's behind Elijah Qualls.

  • For the UW the potential difference makers in this class include:

Elijah Qualls DT - super disruptive DT, played RB in high school at 275+
Daeshon Hall DE - Texas schools are pushing hard for him, going to be a battle to keep him
Darrell Daniels WR - WR recruits Stringfellow and Ross are often listed higher, but Daniels dominated the post season All-Star games he played in

A couple of guys they're still in on that are worth knowing
Myles Jack OLB - Bellevue HS product, longtime UCLA recruit but it looking around, I expect him to flip to UW by signing day
Danny Mattingly TE - Spokane kid, brother played at WSU, previous Notre Dame commit, now headed to Oregon but UW still pushing. Likely sticks with Oregon, bit also wouldn't be a shock if he flipped.
Nico Falah OT - CA kid, longtime USC commit but UW has an outside chance - Tosh Lupoi worrking this one
Lastly, the one that might push J over the edge, the Robinson twins. Tyrell (OLB) and Tyree (WR) Robinson. 4* football players as well as Pac12 quality basketball recruits. They're Oregon commits who decided to take some visits when Chip left town. Tuiasasopo is the main recruiter, and they'll be visiting UW (as well as a couple other schools) prior to signing day. Would be a huge coup if UW pulled this one off.

Again, Jack is most likely, but they're pushing for all of these.

  • Yeah the Educk forum is insufferable, overrun with jerks.

Kelly looks awesome, I hope he sticks with UW. Oregon and USC are making moves on him, which would suck because he is a damn good prospect and might make one hell of a DB. JoJo Mathis is ranked a 4 star everywhere I have seen, not sure where the 5* comment originates from.

    Kelly is a CB.

Also there is talk of Mathis becoming a MLB. He shed some weight and has been working towards this for sometime.

With how good the current class is for UW, it could get a lot better by a huge margin if we can get a couple 4/5 star guys we're rumored to be in the mix for.

My favorite recruit so far is Farria. IMO, he's going to be the best DL recruit from this class if he can qualify.

Other guys we are definitely in the mix for are Eddie Vanderdoes and Reuben Foster

Agreed. They are still in on at least one notable OL though.

In fairness, UW had a very good offense in 2011 with a below average line. Having a mobile QB and a really good RB can really elevate a line. Since skill position talent is apparently easier to find that OL talent, it seems Sark is intent on taking this route.

Maybe if UW posts a 10 win season with a great offense, we'll finally start getting some OL recruits in here.

  • Getting rid of Cozzetto is what Sark needs to do. The guy can't lure top of the line Oline talent nor can he coach anyone up. Only Kelemete has been drafted on the Oline during Sark's tenure. Not the sign of a good Oline coach.

Talk about some UW site pulling crap out of their ass. The only teams they are talking to are SC and tOSU. They will both be ducks come signing day, but it does make me laugh that UW thinks they have a chance. Given the fact Tyree was tweeting how weak UW is during the vegas bowl, and how he's glad he didn't pick them.

@HumbleDuck_2: Washington football is weak af glad I didn't go there lol

    HumbleDuck is Tyree Robinson.

The twins visited USC this weekend and have a visit planned for Ohio State. They are not visiting Washington as far as I know. Duck coaches will be in there living rooms tomorrow solidifying things.

Here they are visiting USC this weekend.

I honestly don't care what one tweeted a month ago. Recruiting is a crazy business. Heck Jordan Payton committed to UW on ESPN last year the night before LOI day only to sign with UCLA the very next morning. Kids change their minds.

Ya know, you mgiht be right, i just did see a tweet about it. Recruitings crazy. I'd be pretty damn shocked if they ended up at Washignton though. And wont lose sleep about it. I'd be fine if we had a one man class and that man was Thomas Tyner.

Oh I definitely agree, I would be beyond shocked if they committed to UW, it's pretty much a lock that they are ducks. But CP was saying that they weren't talking to UW and Husky fans were making "crap" up. I just posted that to show that they are in fact talking to UW.

The most unpredictable always happens in recruiting, but ya, these kids are ducks.

I'm just holding out hope (very, very little) that Uw can somehow at least convince Tyner to just take a visit... :D Don't think that's happen either though ha

Its what makes recruiting entertaining and fun. In comparison recruiting high school athletes makes the NFL draft look like an exact science. I've seen dozens of 5*'s who everybody thought would be dominant go to college and then never sniff the field. I've seen 2*'s who were after thoughts become dominant. (Max Unger was a 2 star recruit when he came to Oregon, now he's first team all pro).

Thats why I wont lose any sleep if Oregon loses any commits and I wont jump for joy and go all crazy if they flip some from other schools. Its just a fun, entertaining roller coaster ride and nobody will know how it turned out until 4 years down the line. LaMichael James was a 3 star without very high expectations and Kenjon Barner was a 3 star cornerback. ya just never know.

If i'm UW's staff and I feel like i have any chance in the world at Eddie Vanderdoes I drop all other projects i'm working on and go 100% after him. That kid is going to be Ndomakong Suh good. He's an absolute bull.

It looked like Oregon was in it for him early, as he's good buddies with Arik Armstead, but I dont think we're in the conversation anymore. I think he probably ends up recommitting to USC when all is said and done.

He's made several comments about wanting to do 'what's best' for his girlfriend and daughter, and I can't imagine moving all the way across the country will fit that. Frankly, I'm pretty impressed that he's as interested as he is.

  • Kind of off topic but Jim Mora is killing it in recruiting down at UCLA. 2 more big time commits today, and rumors that this might be the end destination for Eddie Vanderdoes. They'll probably have a top 10 recruiting class when all is said and done.

Sometimes I wish UO was in Los Angeles. Sure would make recruiting a heck of a lot easier then trying to recruit to Eugene.

Or I did. They never had a trip planned for UW this weekend. They have confirmed they where going to visit tOSU this weekend, but after meeting with the UO coaches have canceled it. Funny UW people continue to believe every lie thrown at them by their supposed "insiders."

Sometimes I wish UO was in Los Angeles. Sure would make recruiting a heck of a lot easier then trying to recruit to Eugene.

The recruiters on that staff are amazing

Adrian Klemm, Steve Broussard, Eric Yarber, or Demetrice Martin would be a strong lead recruiter for a lot of BCS schools, to have them all on staff is almost unfair.

Mora still has to prove he can coach, which he arguably hasn't done particularly well since he was the DC in SF, but he's definitely getting the talent.

If by 'insiders' you mean Lincoln HS basketball coach Jason Bryant, then yeah, I need to quit listening to these supposed 'insiders'. Oregon had a great in home this week after Helfrich was officially named coach, and they're likely now settled.

As initially mentioned, it was highly unlikely they would flip, but hell it's worth a shot.

Oregon right now is going hard after Daeshon Hall, DE out of Texas with Seattle ties. Dline is the strength of the class for UW at the moment, but losing Hall, especially to Oregon, would be a blow.

I know our coaches met with him today, but havnt heard anything about him visiting yet. I heard Texas A&M is also making a push at him. My gut feeling is that Tosh (and his dad living in the SEattle area) keeps him at UW.

  • It now looks like maybe just one of the twins is visiting Washington next weekend. Ducks are pretty much out of it for Hall, but A&M still pushing.

  • Recent UW recruiting news (which is all I care about) is we're out of the running for Foster, Jack will decide between us and UCLA, Falah is 50/50 on UW and USC, and Hall a commit is pretty much up for grabs. UW already has a great WR and awesome DL class, some decent LB, and a good QB and RB, only concern is bad O-line recruiting but sark doesn't care about OL based on this years quality of OL so that should be expected.

Sark has gone after several top-notch OL, and they've gone elsewhere. Saying he 'doesn't care' just because some 17-year-old kids decided they wanted to play elsewhere is ridiculous.

Banner's dad was not involved in his life at all, the family he grew up with was a Wazzu family

UW loses one OL this year and zero next year, they don't need to pull in 5 or 6 guys. I would expect them to get one more guy - either Falah or an under the radar guy.

  • So Tyrell Robinson is visiting the UW...and Tyree Robinson is not. There's never been any indication that these two will not be playing together at the next level, so this is about the free trip, but interesting nonetheless. The UW Scout guys have been hinting that Tyner may make a visit as well, but I think that's more about them trying to sell subscriptions vs. anything real happening.

Recruiting is getting exponentially crazier each year.

Supposedly Hall is coming to UW this weekend for an unofficial. Along with pretty much our entire class, haha

That's done. There's pretty much a zero percent Tyner visits. UW was trying to get he and his family up for an official. It sounded like it *could* happen, but Tyner said no.

  • Yeah, Tyner in Oregon's offense is going to suck for the rest of us. That guy has massive potential.

According to Greg Biggins, both the twins are coming to Washington for their official visits this weekend with "an open mind"

Sounds like they have had a great trip and its going to be a tough decision for them. My gut feeling is that they flip to Washington, but we'll see. If they do flip i have a feeling Lorenzo Romar has a lot to do with it.

Sounds like the Ducks are probably losing Dontre Wilson to Ohio State. But nothign is official there yet either.

As long as we keep Thomas Tyner i'm a happy Duck. And that sounds 100%. I expected to lose a few when Chip left, so keeping the Twins or Wilson would just be a bonus.

  • The twins would be a huge coup for UW, and really solidify the talent on that defense at essentially all positions. Here's hoping.

Seems like Nico is probably staying at USC, and Myles is hard to predict based on what I'm reading, though probably leaning UCLA.

  • New rumor on rivals is that the twins might split and we might each end up with one. Personally I dont think there's any chance of that.

Also saw this tweet: @bcondotta "Tyree was quoted several times after he committed that he wanted to go to UW, but Tyrell talked him out if it. #downtothewire"

I guess we'll find out Wednesday.

Apparently Tyree really wants to play for Romar, and there are a lot of minutes available at SG next season. It would be a huge surprise if these two split up, but looking at things, for football, Tyrell probably would be better off at Oregon, just based on the state of the respective programs, and for basketball Tyree would probably be better off not sitting behind the Dotson Artis back court for 3+ years and playing real minutes right away for UW.

Either way, still waiting on the mea culpa from CPHawk.

  • * Didn't happen - Foster to Alabama

One last thing, Reuben Foster announces tonight. 5* MLB out of Alabama, actually has an Auburn tattoo on his leg. Visited UW early last month, but everyone has assumed it was down to Auburn/Alabama/Georgia.

News is starting to leak that UW is actually in his final three. It still seems extremely extremely unlikely that he would make the move to Seattle, but if it happened, it would be the biggest coup and biggest surprise nationally in recruiting this year.

  • 4 star WR Darren Carrington, from San Diego, just recommited to the ducks. There was some question that he might flip to Arizona State. I mention this here because he's from the same city, and is buddies with the Robinson twins and they've talked about being excited to play together in the past. Just one more small piece in the intrigue of the robinsons decision.
