Dakota Prukop from Montana State agree'd tonight to transfer to Oregon for his final season. This dude is going to kill it in Oregon's offense. Bringing the threat of the QB run back to the offense is going to open everything else up even more. Its the one thing we were really missing with Vernon Adams. Unlike Adams he'll be here early as well, he's enrolling next month so he'll be here for Spring ball. One year of Prukop starting to bridge the gap to a Ryan Kelley/Travis Jonsen/Terry Wilson duel for the job the following year. The future of the Qb position is looking very good in Eugene. Best news of all is that Lockie and Allie, the two bozos who had to play this year should be 5th and 6th on the depth chart next season.

I'd really like to see him throw with his feet set. Most of his throws in the highlights, look like it's all arm.

Montana State went 5-6 last season and went 3-5 in the Big Sky conference (Montana State went 7-5 and 5-3 in the conference in 2013). I do like Prukop's athleticism and arm strength but he's basically the Big Sky equivalent of Jake Locker. He's the epitome of a .500 QB with tools.

By comparison, EWU went 11-3, 12-3, and 11-3 in Vernon Adams' three years, with a 22-2 record inside the Big Sky conference. EWU finished each of those seasons ranked in the top 4 nationally for FCS teams.

I was a huge fan of Vernon Adams and wanted him badly for UW, so when he went to Oregon I thought the Ducks had a chance to win it all this year and was excited for their success. I still think that could have been true if Adams had been healthy all year, he is a stunning QB.

Watching the Prukop highlights, it's hard not to notice just how terrible those defenses are, and as mentioned before, Prukop posted a 3-5 record in a FCS conference last year. His overall stats are good, but they seem to vary dramatically based on quality of opponent. When facing bad FCS teams his numbers are epic. But against the better FCS teams his numbers have been awful. If I was a Ducks fan I'd have cautious optimism at most. Love the tools, but Jeff Lindquist has amazing tools too, and Lindquist is simply not a power conference caliber QB. But in the FCS, particularly against the crappier FCS teams, he'd probably do a lot of damage.

My feeling is that Prukop is probably going to be somewhere between Lindquist and Locker in a power conference setting. Decent at best, a disaster at worst.

Still, it was the right thing to do to find a willing transfer for 2016. Better than doing nothing. It was also wise to banish Lockie and Allie.

All that said, I think Oregon should be careful about reaching into the FCS ranks for a QB. It did make sense for a guy like Vernon Adams, but Adams should have never been at such a low level in the first place. And QBs like Vernon Adams can only be found at the FCS level a few times per decade.

Oregon still has some luster left. Why not recruit a starting senior QB from an existing power conference school? Kind of feels like Oregon is getting unnecessarily cute by going with an FCS project with tools instead of reaching out to a power conference veteran.

I think you are WAY off on this one. I would bet money that the Oregon offense will be better under this kid then it was under Vernon Adams (who i also love and am very thankful he came to Oregon for the year). Pass effieciency might go down a bit but the offense as a whole will be signifigantly better with the running threat from the QB position. Adams is a great QB and a leader but he was a bit of a square peg in a round hole in the oregon offense... but they were able to make it fit. This kid is straight off the assembly line for what the Ducks want. I read one quote from a non Oregon coach that said that Prukop, along with Josh Rosen, will be the best QB's in the pac 12 next season. Plus the Ducks offense as a whole next year will be more talented then this years team.

He's also directly from the Chip Kelly tree, so he pretty much knows the offense already. His offensive coordinator (who's also been hired by the Ducks to be the QB Coach) played QB for Chip Kelly at New Hampshire and then was on the coaching staff with Chip Kelly there. So he could probably step in and run the offense tomorrow.

For comparisons sake, this year against Eastern WAshington Adams passed for 246 yards and rushed for 94 (He had to play into the 4th quarter before getting hurt, because that game was basically a shoot out). Prukop against E. Washington this year threw for 353, and rushed for 198. Btw, the games that he lost this year the opposing team scored 34,44, 55, 49, 54 and 59 points so it didnt seem to be an offensive issue.

I'm not saying the kids going to be Mariota, or an NFL player (he never even played QB in high school... he was a safety), but he's a perfect fit for the DUcks and i'll be shocked if he doesnt tear it up.

As for the Ducks getting cute with transfers this should be the last year they have to do it. Admittedly they've had some whiffs and just some bad luck in QB recruiting the last few years. First Brian Bennett, who was pretty good, lost the job to Mariota and didnt want to sit behind him so he left. Jake Rodriguez who looked like he was going to be a stud had a Joe Theisanesque leg break and never came back from it, Damion Hobbs just wasnt good (whiff) and he transferred, Morgan Mahalak has all the tools but apparently not the work eithic (whiff). Now though we have 4 young, good, solid looking QB's in the pipeline coming up, Prukop will bridge the gap to them.

It's tough to win much when the other teams are scoring 45+ points a game in the losses. Montana state only lost one game when the other team was held under 40points.

I looked up his game logs the other day. Against the better FCS teams he has to tuck and run way more while posting completion rates in the 50s. He's an athlete playing QB, ala Locker and Lindquist.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a good move for Oregon if it happens, but I wouldn't be hyped for the guy if I was a Ducks fan. And I was hyped to the moon for Adams.

Adams is a great QB and a leader but he was a bit of a square peg in a round hole in the oregon offense... but they were able to make it fit.

Adams fit the Ducks offense perfectly, but its hard for anyone to pick up an NCAA offense and gel with receivers in only a few weeks. The injuries early in the season didn't help either.

At least Prukop, if he goes to Oregon, will transfer early and start the year further along than Adams did.

Why can't Oregon recruit a QB?

They need someone to start in 2016. Starting a true freshman is a dicey proposition.

The running game is where I didn't think Adams was a great fit. He was way slower then I was expecting. He's great at feeling pressure and moving around in the pocket but was virtually non existent in the read option and designed qb run game. In the passing game, once he got his rhythm, he was every bit as good as mariotA.

As for Prukop, I fully admit I'd never even heard his name until a week and a half ago, but he sure looks like a fit and duck fans who are far smarter and more tuned into the program then me think he will absolutely dominate. We shall see. (If he chooses oregon. He's supposed to announce his decision around 6 tonight between Oregon and Alabama.)

Adams is a good runner, probably no worse than Darron Thomas, but probably avoided running because he's made of glass and this was a very important season for his NFL prospects.

I find it so interesting that Alabama is interested in an athlete at QB, it's 180 degrees different from the kinds of QBs Saban has had in the past. Saban has always preferred immobile pocket passers, with the brief and minor exception of Blake Sims. Sims was a good runner but he was more QB than athlete.

Maybe Saban is taking a page out of Urban Meyers' book.

Alabama's current QB, Coker, is a senior. So Prukop wouldn't have to deal with an incumbent QB at either school.

Regarding the last two tweets, as mentioned earlier in the thread there was a 3 year period where qb recruiting had either bad luck or just flat out whiffs. The last 2 years (plus next years class already) we've gotten 4 solid qb recruits out of high school. Adams and now prudok will bridge the gap, created by earlier whifs) to the youngins.

Is someone different recruiting the QBs now as opposed to the whiffs?

Yes. Scott frost is now at central Florida.
