I like it, though drafting Montgomery for his return skills feels redundant if we can land Lockett. I'd rather see a CB there, personally.

Unfortunately, high SPARQ scores show that you are a good athlete at the WR position, but doesn't test how well you can catch the ball in traffic.

Montgomery and Lockett are two very different types of receivers...Lockett is a small, Tate type of receiver, while Montgomery is more of a big receiver. I kind of thought Lockett could be the punt returner, and they could trade off on kick returns, with Montgomery taking the majority of them.

3 WRers seems a bit high in the first 4 RDs with only 1 Olineman and no RBs chosen in that frame.

I know they started with 7 Wr on the 53 last year but i think that was related to Harvin. Before that it was 5-6 and Graham is basically a WR. If they did go that route it would seem like a strong indication that Richardson would miss the whole season and allow for the Lockette and Kearse contracts to expire after this season.

I agree 100%. I have 3 WR's in my mock, but Montgomery and Lockett are not SPARQ beasts...I chose them more so for their ability to return punts and kick-offs. I don't think I could ever handle another season of Walter's type punt returns. The return game is definitely something that needs addressing, and considering JS/PC haven't signed anyone to fill the position, and that almost no one has returners on their mocks, I thought these 2 guys could combine to maybe join the top 5 or 10 return teams in the NFL.

True the 3rd WR in my mock, Chris Conley, is a SPARQ beast, but I actually think he has the ability to become a #1 WR in the NFL without costing the Hawks a 1st or 2nd round pick. The guy has incredible speed for his size, and his films show amazing ability to catch balls even in traffic. He has great moves...and man, can he go up for the ball. He had a 45" vertical jump at the combine. Take for example, a receiver like Mike Evans. Conley is 2" shorter than Evans, but his vertical of 45" is 8" higher than Evans'. Decent blocker too.

I originally had a RB back as pick #63...Ameer Abdullah, a SPARQ beast and a KR/PR specialist, but he moved up in the draft, and I don't think it's a good idea for the Hawks to trade up this year. Besides, I think Davis Tull would be the best possible pick at #63. My main reason for picking 2 of those WR's in those first 5 picks was to add KR/PR specialists. Think about it...they actually had to keep Bryan Walters on the roster for most of the year, even though he was a horrible receiver and a horrible punt returner (he was one of those 7 WR's). The other reason I wanted more WR's earlier in the draft is that the Hawks usually get their better receivers via trade, and they are too expensive at some point. Maybe if they got a few WR's in this draft a little higher up, they might not need to trade for any receivers in a couple of years from now. And getting back to RB's, it just seemed like all the good ones are going to be gone before we get a pick anyway. Maybe when Lynch and Turbin are gone, they can trade for a good RB.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of either purely at receiver. Lockett is near 20 pounds smaller than Tate and struggles against press coverage. He'll be a solid, if not, great slot receiver (not a huge need), but he's among the best in the country at returning kicks. If you take that away from him even a little bit it hurts the value of the pick.

Likewise with Montgomery. Right now he's a great athlete playing receiver. He might struggle to make a roster year 1 if not for his return ability buying him time to develop. Take that away and it makes less sense to spend a 4th on him.

Something else to consider is Conley could potentially be a dynamic kickoff returner given his speed and quickness if you are worried about a backup.

Edit: The best combination, imo, would be Montgomery and Conley. I could totally get behind that.

Davis Tull is a 1 trick pony speed rusher that goes all the way around the OT and then to the QB most of the time and that's against lesser competition. He will get dominated by NFL tackles & run by the QB with ease. He's not close to top 100 talent imo.

It is possible that if he makes it to the Seahawks roster, they might be able to coach him up or move him around to a position better suited for him. He wouldn't be the first super-athletic type that JS/PC draft and then change him to a position that they deem he should have been at in college.

While receivers are supposed to catch the ball, our system needs WR's that can block as well.

Yeah, Tull reminds me a bit of Bruce Irvin in that while his scheme calls for him to do one thing, his skill set suggests he is capable of more.

With the exception of ADB, when was the last time the Hawks drafted a WR for his blocking abilities (I guess Lockette was pretty good during Beat Quake 2.0)?
