    Playoff Opponents

Well certainly, this is the playoffs now. No game is a given. I just wanted to show everyone how the seeding worked out in the new playoff format from a Seahawks perspective of course.

    Playoff Opponents

Everyone, With the new playoff format this year, I think it's worthwhile to know who Seattle can, is likely to, and can not face provided we win our first playoff game for next round and the round after that. The old system no longer works. 1) Seattle as the three seed can not face Green Bay...

    Cowboys @ Giants

Well it didn't happen this year but I can't wait for one season to have this happen just to see people pull their hair out. "The 3-14 Cowboys are hosting the 13-4 Seahawks for the wildcard round."

    Cowboys @ Giants

That's what I get too. You would need to have a four way tie at 3-13 (or 3-14 starting next year) where everyone has a 1-1 division record. I wonder how they would tie break it because the conference record would be tied as well. A demented form of "how low can you go"....

    Cowboys @ Giants

Go Eagles! Make NFL History and send a 6-10 team into the playoff! YOU CAN DO IT!!! Edit PS: What is the hypothetical minimum record a team can have and sill make the playoffs?

Seahawks have an outside chance for the #1 Seed

The niners are better than their record and having Seattle lay a last game egg is not new. I am confident we will play a lot better next week. We are going to be the #3 seed no matter what. Neither the packers nor the saints are going to lose.

    Cowboys @ Giants

Come on Giants! Give us a 6-10 NFC Champion. I know you can do it!

Green Bay at Chicago, New Orleans at Carolina

Like I said elsewhere on a crude ballpark estimate I think that Seattle has about a 20% chance at the #2 seed and about a 5% chance at the one seed.

Seahawks have longest streak of winning seasons?

Just two: The sky is blue and the sea is salty. :)

Seahawks have an outside chance for the #1 Seed

Just 'ballparking' it, I estimate we have about a 5% chance for the #1 seed, a 20% chance for the #2 seed, and a 75% chance we are the #3 seed. That said, anyone that has played DND knows that natural 20s (5% chance) do happen.

The absurd <1% scenario that bars the Rams from the playoffs

Basically everything that could go wrong for the LA Rams in week 16 did go wrong. Chicago won, Arizona lost, and the Rams lost. What that means is if the LA Rams lose to Arizona (which is entirely possible given their QB status), and Chicago wins, then the LA Rams are out. That's because in...

    Rest'em or play'em

I suspect that there will be quite a bit of scoreboard watching. I know that the players and coaches deny it, but I'd be shocked if they didn't in this case. If it looks like Green Bay is running away with things, then I expect Pete will be fairly liberal with his substitutions. Same goes for...

    The new playoff format...

Given how enamored the NFL brass is of international games (i.e. London, Mexico City), I would not at all be surprised.

    The new playoff format...

I would still contend that the change is nearly invisible. Yes the #2 seed is a lot less desirable, but it doesn't really seem to affect a lot of teams which was one of the fears. The old and new playoff pictures are nearly the same in both conferences.

    The new playoff format...

Actually at least for this year the change is nearly invisible. If we had the old system, the playoff picture for both the AFC and NFC would be almost identical. In the case of the NFC, Chicago, Arizona, and the Rams would still be chasing for the last playoff spot only it would be one rather...

    Week 17 AFC Playoff Picture

Hello everyone, This is the companion topic to the NFC Playoff Picture which you can find here. With the break up of the Patriot's dominance in the AFC, the picture is wide open this year. I am going to assume that the Bills win in week 16 which as we speak looks to be a very safe bet. As...

    Week 17 NFC Playoff Picture

Hello Everyone, Long time and no see. I hadn't done a full playoff picture until now because of Covid and other considerations, but there has been enough confusion (including some of my own), that I decided to give the full Week 17 NFC Playoff Picture headed into the last week of the season...

So 2nd seed or 3rd seed?

So here's the skinny. Right now the Packers are 12-3 with a conference record of 9-2, the Saints are 11-4 with a conference record of 9-2, and Seattle is 11-4 with a conference record of 8-3. Seattle has the common opponent tiebreak against both NO and GB should it apply. If the Packers win...

    Saints play at 10am

You. Play. To. Win. The. Game. To quote Herm Edwards. To wit, we simply don't know yet what will happen. Who would have guessed that the Rams would have laid an egg against the Jets just a couple of weeks after we thoroughly waxed the stadium with them?

    Seeding scenarios for the NFC

Yep agreed. Actually if Seattle wins, a tie by NO would be enough to give Seattle the number 2 seed (GB tie would not of course). The upshot is that NO beats both GB and Seattle head to head (or three way), and Seattle beats GB when overall record is tied.
